Najib Launches Free Public Bus Service In Johor BaharuJOHOR BAHARU, July 16 (Bernama) -- Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak Wednesday launched a free public bus service in Johor Baharu city involving a cost of RM2.19 million.
The bus service will be from 6am to midnight for the Larkin-JB Sentral-MBJB-Jalan Wong Ah Fook-Larkin route.
It carries the tagline, "JB Dihatiku" (Johor In My Heart), with the service frequency at every 20 minutes.
Also present at the launch were Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin.
Khaled in his speech, said the free bus service was being fully funded by the Johor Baharu City Council (MBJB) and introduced with the aim of easing traffic congestion.
He said it would also involve the use of a travel card issued by MBJB.
According to a press statement from MBJB, the free bus service will be implemented in two stages with the trial service from Aug 8 until Sept 7 for the public.
The full service operation is scheduled to start on Aug 8, with the free bus service offered to holders of the MBJB travel card.
MBJB will be offering 3,000 cards for free and an additional card at a discounted price of RM5 while stocks last. The normal price for the card is RM10.
The free travel card can be obtained from the MBJB counters at Larkin and JB Sentral, here, from this Aug 22.
