BEST XI
Formation: 4-3-3
Goalkeeper
Antonio Mirante (Parma): The shot-stopper showed lightning-quick reflexes at the San Paolo to deny Ezequiel Lavezzi and Marek Hamsik, helping the Gialloblu to a 3-2 win in Naples.
Defence
Mattia Cassani (Palermo): Like a locomotive up and down the right flank, the Italian was never caught out of position and assisted his team-mates in attack as well. A potential call-up for Italy this summer?
Nicolas Burdisso (Roma): One of the Giallorossi’s surprise successes has been the Argentine, who has frequently been honoured in our Best XI as of late. The ex-Inter centre-back made several crucial interventions as Atalanta pushed for an equaliser late on.
Giorgio Chiellini (Juventus): Dominated the Cagliari attackers with some fine challenges and scored the winner to keep Juventus within touching distance of fourth place. He is one of the few that has shown heart and desire in Turin this season.
Marco Cassetti (Roma): Chipped in with a headed winner to boost Roma to the top of the Serie A standings and was otherwise excellent in his usual full-back position. The Giallorossi will hope the defender can keep up his current form in the final weeks of the campaign.
Midfield
Adrian Ricchiuti (Catania): The best of the bunch against Milan, Ricchuiti’s career has been spent toiling in Serie B and C, but he strutted his stuff at the San Siro. Authoritative and quick to act, the South American beautifully sent Maxi Lopez through on goal and also rose high to head home the Etnei’s second as well.

Angelo Palombo (Sampdoria): Antonio Cassano may have scored the goal, but Palombo was the motor that drove the Blucerchiati to a precious 1-0 Derby della Lanterna triumph. Able to dictate play and win the ball for Samp on countless occasions during the match.
Riccardo Montolivo (Fiorentina): The midfielder is well on his way to booking his place in South Africa. Plenty of fantastic work in central midfield and vision to rival even the best in Serie A, as shown when he picked out Gianluca Comotto ahead of the opener.
Attack
Fabrizio Miccoli (Palermo): The pint-sized striker continues his highlight reel season, scoring two more times against the Flying Donkeys to take his seasonal tally in Serie A up to 15 and maintain Palermo’s pole position in the race for fourth place.
Hernan Crespo (Parma): The veteran came on at half-time and twisted the match in Parma’s favour. He first stole in to assist Antonelli, before opening up the defence himself with great skill as Luis Jimenez found a late winner.

Abdelkader Ghezzal (Siena): The Algerian was in fine form as he overturned the result against Bari with a brace, but is it too little too late for relegation-bound Siena?
