输掉重要的一役~ 太可惜了
Jazz show fight but fall to Rockets 110-108
By Brian T. Smith

Houston • Paul Millsap returned to action, as tough and unyielding as ever. The Jazz sharpened their attack and proved their mettle. But while the fight was unquestionably there, the win was not.
Utah fell 110-108 to the Houston Rockets on Sunday night at the Toyota Center, losing crucial ground in the Western Conference playoff race.
Millsap led Utah with a game-high 35 points, while Kevin Martin topped Houston with 34 and was 18 of 18 from the foul line.
Down 55-47 at halftime, Utah pulled within 63-60 after Devin Harris drained a step-back 3-pointer. A three-point play by Millsap tied the contest at 65.
Houston found temporary separation early in the fourth quarter, jumping ahead 83-78 after rookie Patrick Patterson slammed home a fast break. A three-point play by Kyle Lowry then made it 98-90 Rockets with 2 minutes, 9 seconds to go.
Still, Utah would not go away. Back-to-back 3s by Millsap pulled the Jazz within 102-99 with 31 seconds remaining. Eight late free throws by Martin sealed the Rockets’ win, though.
Leading 13-12 midway through the first quarter, the Jazz allowed Houston to close the period on an 18-6 run.
The Rockets’ advantage soared to 46-34 following a 3 by Martin from the left wing with 4:54 left during the second quarter.
Martin and Lowry combined for 36 points on 11-of-18 shooting in the first half. The duo hit 5 of their 11 shots beyond the arc, while Houston knocked down 57.1 percent (8 of 14) of its attempts.
Millsap led Utah with 11 points in the first half, making his first appearance in six games after dealing with left knee tendinitis. Meanwhile, the Jazz attempted six more field goals than Houston, outscoring the Rockets 30-10 in the paint and outrebounding Houston 26-21.
Rockets starting small forward Chase Budinger suffered a sprained left ankle early during the second quarter and did not return. |

Randolph leads Jazz past Grizzlies 103-85
Posted Mar 21 2011 11:05PM
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) Zach Randolph scored 19 points and grabbed 13 rebounds as the Memphis Grizzlies maintained their hold on the final Western Conference playoff spot with a 103-85 victory over the Utah Jazz on Monday night.
Seven Memphis players finished in double figures as the Grizzlies won for the third time in four games. Darrell Arthur scored 14 points on 7-of-11 shooting from the field, while Tony Allen had 12 points.
Paul Millsap led Utah with 15 points, while Al Jefferson scored 12.
While the Jazz shot 49 percent for the game, they committed 19 turnovers. Utah was outscored in the paint 66-40 and outrebounded by Memphis 40-30, including 14 offensive rebounds for Memphis.
The win solidified Memphis' hold on the final playoff spot in the Western Conference, while the Jazz dropped three games behind the Grizzlies.
Memphis had a season-high 33 assists on 45 baskets in the game and weathered a slight rush by the Jazz early in the fourth.
Utah built an early lead as the Grizzlies came out of the gate shooting poorly.
Memphis' defense began causing turnovers, leading to transition baskets. The Grizzlies built their own lead, eventually reaching 15 points in the half.
But Utah chipped away at the advantage as its defense tightened. The Jazz defenders doubled Randolph and Gasol in the post to try and cut down on their effectiveness.
Meanwhile, Millsap was perfect on his five shots in the half, en route to 11 points. Jefferson, who averages 19 points a game, was held scoreless until a hook shot with 2:22 left in the half.
The Jazz had cut the lead to single-digits, but Mayo's 3-pointer at the halftime horn gave Memphis a 54-42 lead at the break.
Utah was still shooting well in the third period, but unable to make any headway on Memphis' advantage. The Grizzlies, who lead the league in points in the paint at 50.7 a game, already had surpassed their average by the end of the third quarter, helping Memphis carry an 80-65 lead into the final frame.
Utah, which has a league-best 12 games where it has erased double-digit deficits in the second half, tried to start another comeback entering the fourth.
Jefferson and Ronnie Price scored baskets and Gordon Hayward nailed a 3-pointer before Memphis could get on the board. That pulled Utah within 80-72, but Memphis answered with a 15-3 run and saw its lead reach 95-75 at the midway point of the fourth. |

爵士力不从心,再败北
Devin Harris 和 Favors 没有上场, Kirilenko 再次受伤
Jazz fall to .500 with 106-94 loss to Thunder
By JEFF LATZKE
Posted Mar 24 2011 12:34AM
OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) With the season winding down, the Oklahoma City Thunder are getting closer every day to locking up a spot in the playoffs.
The Utah Jazz are falling ever closer to missing out for the first time in five years.
Russell Westbrook scored 31 points, Kevin Durant added 29 and Oklahoma City pulled away from the depleted Jazz in the second half for a 106-94 victory Wednesday night.
The Thunder bounced back from a loss to Toronto to win for the 10th time in 12 games.
"I think that we've just got to continue on this path. I think we're on a good roll right now," Durant said. "Even though we lost against Toronto, I think we're still feeling good."
The Jazz played without starting point guard Devin Harris because of a strained right hamstring, and Andrei Kirilenko sat out the second half after bruising a nerve in his left knee. That proved to be too much to overcome.
Utah eliminated an early 10-point deficit and was up by one early in the third quarter, but Durant and Westbrook eventually took over.
Al Jefferson had 32 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Jazz, who fell to .500 for the first time since Nov. 6 and dropped four games behind Memphis for the final playoff spot in the Western Conference with 10 games left.
"We're gonna just fight, fight until the end," Jefferson said. "We have another game tomorrow (against New Orleans) and we're just gonna keep fighting." |

Okafor, Paul lead Hornets past Jazz 121-117 in OT
By LYNN DeBRUIN
Posted Mar 25 2011 12:03AM
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) Emeka Okafor banked in a 20-footer at the regulation buzzer to force overtime, and reserve Aaron Gray scored six points in the extra period to lead the New Orleans Hornets to a 121-117 victory over the short-handed Utah Jazz on Thursday night.
David West scored 29 points for the Hornets before being taken off in a wheelchair holding his head and grimacing in pain after going down hard after a powerful dunk that tied the game at 103.
Paul Millsap hit two free throws to put the Jazz ahead 105-103 with 1.3 seconds to go, but Okafor, who had subbed back in when West was injured, managed to get off the game-tying shot.
Millsap had 33 points to lead the Jazz, who have dropped four straight.
Chris Paul scored five of his 24 points in overtime for the Hornets, and Trevor Ariza added 14, including a 3-pointer in the extra period. |

Terry's 22, Nowitzki's 19 lead Mavs past Jazz
By LYNN DeBRUIN
Posted Mar 27 2011 1:13AM
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) Dallas players knew it was important to start their six-game road trip on a positive note, something they did with a 13-0 fourth-quarter run that turned a close contest into a 94-77 rout.
Reserve Jason Terry scored five of his game-high 22 points in that run to hand the slumping Jazz their fifth straight loss.
The win gave the Mavs their first series sweep of the Jazz since the 2004-2005 season.
"To start off the road trip with a win in this building, it builds up your confidence," Terry said. "We've got to keep the momentum, and it happens quick. (Sunday) night, we got to get it going."
On Sunday, the Mavs (51-21) face a Phoenix Suns team that entered Saturday three games out of eighth place in the Western Conference playoff race. Dallas then heads to Los Angeles for back-to-back games against the Clippers and Lakers, before closing out the road trip at Golden State and Portland.
The Mavs felt lucky to escape Saturday.
"We didn't feel like this game should have been close at all," Terry said. "We've been practicing hard, trying to play every game like the playoffs. Tonight the intensity was like the playoffs but as far as us getting out and getting a good lead on them, it wasn't happening for us. So that was frustrating.
"But in the fourth quarter, we locked in on both ends of the floor and did what we had to do."
The Jazz took a 60-58 lead into the fourth quarter, and led 70-68 with 6:21 left on Raja Bell's 20-foot jumper.
Then the Mavs took over.
Jose Barea and Terry started the big run with back-to-back 3-pointers. Marion then stole the ball and dunked at the other end for a 76-70 lead. Tyson Chandler capped the run with a three-point play.
Terry scored 10 of his points in the fourth quarter, while Dallas' defense held the Jazz as a team to just 17. Utah scored only 13 points in the third quarter after leading 47-43 at halftime.
It was just one more way to lose for the Jazz, who in mid-January were as many as 14 games over .500.
"One game, we come in and turn the ball over," Jazz forward C.J. Miles said. "One game, we just can't make a shot. One game, we just can't stop anybody. It just seems like we can't put everything together at one time and it's tough to play that way."
He gave the Mavs plenty of credit.
"Defensively, they packed the paint," Miles said. "Everything we wanted to do to try to get it inside they did a good job. ... They took charges, they blocked shots, they were just active and it was tough for us."
Terry, who made 6 of 7 shots overall and 4 of 5 from beyond the arc, said the Mavs gave Utah a different look.
"We made them play a little quicker and with our flow offense, as you know, we're pretty tough to beat," he said. "But defensively we scrambled around." |

这场球输在罚球,少过一半罚不进
Wall leads Wizards over Jazz 100-95 in OT
By LYNN DeBRUIN
Posted Mar 29 2011 1:43AM
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) For rookie John Wall, March Madness meant helping the Washington Wizards avoid making NBA history as a one-win road team.
He ensured that, scoring a game-high 28 points Monday as the Wizards beat the struggling Utah Jazz, 100-95 in overtime for only their second road win of the season.
The Wizards avoided sharing the dubious honor with Sacramento, which holds the NBA record for fewest road victories as the Kings went 1-40 in 1990-1991.
"It's great," Wall said. "We didn't want to go in the record books. But we also wanted to compete. Coach wanted to know who was going to come out here and compete on back-to-backs."
Coming off a loss Sunday night at Golden State and with five players out because of injury, the task fell to rookies Jordan Crawford and Wall.
Wall, feeding off the energy from his Final Four-bound Kentucky Wildcats, carried the load early. He scored 24 of his 28 points in the first half as Washington took a 51-43 lead.
Then, Crawford, a rookie out of Xavier, stepped in. He hit a 15-footer with 4.4 seconds remaining in regulation to force overtime, then made two key steals at the beginning of overtime. Maurice Evans also scored seven of his 12 points in overtime
Of Crawford's 25 points, eight came in the fourth quarter and four were in overtime.
"It was great," JaVale McGee said. "Everybody was happy, jumping around, clapping hands."
The loss, meanwhile, dropped the Jazz to a new low. It was their sixth straight as they fell to 36-39.
"It don't hurt no more than it did against the second-best team in the West, the Mavericks," Jazz forward Paul Millsap said referring to Saturday night's fourth-quarter collapse. "It's losing, period."
C.J. Miles led the Jazz with 17 points, but he shot only 3 of 12 from 3-point range and was 1 of 4 in overtime.
"It's frustrating especially because they were open shots," said Miles, who has made only 7 of 34 from 3-point range in the last five games.
Utah's trio of rookies - Derrick Favors, Gordon Hayward and Jeremy Evans - combined for 17 fourth-quarter points to get the Jazz back in the game after they trailed by 10 in the fourth quarter.
But Hayward and Evans both made key turnovers in overtime for the Jazz.
"The young guys were playing well," said Jazz coach Ty Corbin, now 5-16 since replacing the retired Jerry Sloan. "They played hard and I thought they deserved to be on the floor."
Still, the loss gave Washington a series sweep. The Wizards won, 108-101 on Jan. 17. At the time, few realized it was the beginning of the end for the Jazz.
They were 27-13 going into that game, but have gone 9-26 since to fall out of the playoff hunt.
It didn't help Monday that they made only 10 of 21 free throws.
Al Jefferson had 16 rebounds (10 in the first quarter), to go along with his 15 points, but he was on the bench late as the Jazz started looking to the future.
The Jazz's youth movement didn't surprise Wall.
"Sometimes you've got to switch it up and see if you can find a spark," Wall said. "Coach did that with us. One time, he had all five rookies on the court. They just found a spark, got them back into the game (and Corbin) did a good job of keeping them in, let them keep fighting and they took the lead. Luckily, we made a shot down the stretch to go into overtime."
The Wizards entered having lost 10 straight on the road and were 1-35 overall on the road this season, their lone win coming at hapless Cleveland.
Now they have two road wins. |
