毫无意外,军心大乱的爵士败给小牛

Nowitzki, Stojakovic send Mavericks past Jazz

Posted Feb 24 2011 12:01AM
DALLAS (AP) The Utah Jazz were already reeling from the news that leading scorer Deron Williams had been traded. Then they ran into the Dallas Mavericks.

Dirk Nowitzki had 23 points to lead seven double-figure scorers, and the Mavericks cruised to a 118-99 victory Wednesday night.

Peja Stojakovic hit four 3-pointers and scored 18 points, and Shawn Marion contributed 16 points for the Mavericks, who stretched their winning streak to four games. Dallas has won 14 of its last 15 overall and eight straight at home.

"It's a good team even without Deron Williams," Mavericks coach Rick Carlisle said. "They had only one point guard so they had some makeshift lineups, but they can play. It was a win we needed to get."

Al Jefferson scored 30 points, Paul Millsap had 18 and Andrei Kirilenko 17 for the Jazz, who will have to snap a five-game losing streak as they revamp their lineup.

"Nobody else is going to feel sorry for us," Utah coach Tyrone Corbin said. "These guys, and most teams in the league, if you show them any weakness, they'll bury you. We don't want to be embarrassed."

The Mavs got off to a sloppy start with eight first-quarter turnovers as the Jazz carried a 26-23 lead into the second. Dallas had gone five days without a game, and the rust was evident.

The Jazz might not have seemed like the trade was affecting them early on, but the Mavericks clamped down on defense and closed the second quarter with an 11-4 spurt over the final 3:12 for a 59-55 halftime advantage behind Nowitzki's 14 points.

Jefferson's 19 first-half points kept the Jazz close before the Mavericks turned up the heat in the third quarter, breaking the game open with a 16-5 surge that included consecutive 3-pointers by Rodrigue Beaubois and Stojakovic for a 79-68 advantage. The Mavs were ahead after three quarters, 88-77, and went on to lead by as many as 21 in the final quarter.

Dallas shot 58 percent from the floor and had 30 assists, 12 from Jason Kidd.

"We were really making shots and sharing the ball," Nowitzki said. "We had (seven) guys in double figures again, and that's how we've been winning lately...sharing the ball, passing the ball, making shots."

Stojakovic continues to round into form in his seventh game since he signed a free agent contract with Dallas on Jan. 24.

"eja's one of the top five or six shooters all-time," Carlisle said. "If we can get him looks, there's going to be a great chance he'll knock them down."

Williams bid farewell to teammates and coaches before flying back to Salt Lake City on Wednesday afternoon, shortly after the team traded him to the New Jersey Nets. The Jazz got Devin Harris and Derrick Favors in the three-team deal, along with the Nets' first-round draft pick, cash and the Golden State Warriors' first-round draft pick in 2012.

Earl Watson started at Williams' point guard spot, but it still was a jolt for a team that has been struggling ever since the resignation of longtime ocach Jerry Sloan earlier this month.

"I haven't gotten over Coach Sloan," Jefferson said. "So when they hit me with (the trade of Williams), it was like, wow, I was surprised. But it's a business."

Millsaps said he was "shocked" to learn of the deal.

"You never thought something like that would happen," he said.

Notes: Harris will wear No. 5 and Favors has been assigned No. 15. They aren't expected to join their new team until Friday. ... Before the game, Mavericks owner Mark Cuban said he liked his team as currently constructed and expressed doubt that he would be making any trade-deadline deal, although he wouldn't totally rule out the idea. "We're always listening...you've always got to listen," Cuban said. "We just weren't out there pitching." ... The Mavs have won 16 of the last 19 at home against the Jazz. ... With his 18th point in the third quarter, Nowitzki moved past Clyde Drexler (22,195 points) and into 23rd place on the NBA's career list. Nowitzki has 22,201 points.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Devin_Harris

Kirilenko 也有14分6篮板

Corbin gets first win as Jazz outmuscle Pacers
By Brian T. Smith

Indianapolis • The Jazz began a new era of basketball with a bang, and coach Tyrone Corbin finally picked up his first win as Utah’s coach.

Led by Paul Millsap’s 23 points and season-high 18 rebounds, the Jazz downed the Indiana Pacers 95-84 Friday night at Conseco Fieldhouse.

Al Jefferson’s 30 points topped Utah, who ended a five-game losing streak.

Danny Granger guided Indiana with 17.

Devin Harris and Derrick Favors made strong first impressions in their Jazz debuts, and Utah led the Pacers 43-38 at halftime.

Harris made the largest initial impact, recording four points and pulling down five rebounds during the first two quarters. But the 19-year-old Favors also impressed, as the rookie hammered down a reverse slam dunk and collected four points in his first four minutes.

The Jazz held a 24-13 lead after the first quarter, marking the lowest offensive total this season by a Utah opponent during the first period and tying the low for any quarter.

But Indiana responded with a 21-10 run, tying the contest at 34 late in the period.

Utah’s advantage swelled to 45-38 after the break. But the Pacers again fought back, tying the game at 63 after A.J. Price sank two free throws with 1 minute, 6 seconds left in the third quarter.

The Jazz then used a 12-2 run midway through the final period to give Corbin, Harris and Favors their first wins in a new setting.

Pistons bounce back, beat Jazz 120-116

By NOAH TRISTER
Posted Feb 26 2011 11:44PM
AUBURN HILLS, Mich. (AP) John Kuester let out a noticeable sigh, then started walking off the court victoriously.

One win might not cure all that ails the Detroit Pistons, but on this night, the beleaguered coach could be proud of his team's effort.

Rodney Stuckey scored 28 points and made a big steal in the final minute, and the Pistons bounced back from an embarrassing start to the weekend with a 120-116 win over the Utah Jazz on Saturday. One night earlier, Detroit used only six players in a lopsided loss at Philadelphia after several Pistons missed at least part of a team shootaround.

Paul Millsap led Utah with 23 points and 11 rebounds.

Will Bynum, who had played all 48 minutes against Philadelphia, put Detroit ahead for good with a driving three-point play that made it 111-108 with 1:52 remaining.

"This was fun," Bynum said. "We had a lot of energy out there. I know that we shot the ball well, but I think the effort was the important part."

Millsap then appeared to be hit in the head while losing the ball inside, and when the Pistons came up with it, the Jazz had to foul to prevent a 5-on-4 situation while their forward was slow getting up. Bynum made both free throws to push the lead back to five.

Utah cut the lead to 114-112 when Al Jefferson scored inside with 27.4 seconds remaining, but Stuckey made two free throws, then swiped a Jazz pass to help the Pistons hold on.

"We were close tonight, but we broke down a couple times defensively," Utah guard Raja Bell said. "I think we all understood that they were going to be dangerous tonight. In this league it is funny that when guys have their backs up against a wall and undermanned they are dangerous."

Seven Pistons missed at least part of Friday's shootaround, and none of them played against the 76ers. The team said Richard Hamilton, Chris Wilcox, Stuckey and Daye missed the bus, with Stuckey and Daye able to arrive late.

Tayshaun Prince, Tracy McGrady and Ben Wallace also missed the shootaround. The team said Prince had an upset stomach, McGrady had a headache and Wallace was tending to a family matter.

The Jazz, a picture of stability for so many years, are going through their own transition following the Feb. 10 resignation of longtime coach Jerry Sloan. Utah also traded star point guard Deron Williams to New Jersey on Wednesday.

Devin Harris and Derrick Favors, both acquired in that trade, combined for 27 points against Detroit. Harris finished with 17 points and 12 assists in his first start in a Utah uniform.

Andrei Kirilenko scored 21 points and Jefferson added 20 for the Jazz, who shot 59.5 percent from the field.

The Jazz led 95-88 in the fourth quarter before Detroit went on a 12-0 run that included five points each by Daye and Gordon.

"Defensively we are struggling out there in spurts," said Tyrone Corbin, Utah's interim coach. "We are just looking for something good to happen so that we can start feeling good about ourselves."

NOTES: All five Utah starters were in double figures. ... The Pistons led by as many as 11 in the first half and were ahead 58-53 at halftime. ... Detroit owner Karen Davidson said she had no comment on the status of the team's possible sale.

Jazz hang tight with Celtics, but lose 107-102 By Brian T. Smith

The Salt Lake Tribune

First published Feb 28 2011 06:32PM
Updated Mar 1, 2011 12:27AM
The progress is evident. The energy, effort and fight are there. But the wins are not. And with the Jazz’s playoff window becoming smaller as each game goes by, progress and fight are worth little when compared to much-needed victories.

Utah fell to the Boston Celtics 107-102 Monday night at EnergySolutions Arena before a sellout crowd of 19,911.

It was the strongest overall performance the Jazz (32-29) have produced in nearly a month.

Al Jefferson was a monster, recording game highs with 28 points and 19 rebounds, and setting a season high with the latter. Devin Harris was a sharp bullet, thrilling his new hometown crowd with 19 points, five assists and several fast-racing drives to the basket during his Salt Lake City debut. And everyone from Andrei Kirilenko and Paul Millsap to rookie Derrick Favors ignited Utah.

But to Jazz coach Tyrone Corbin, the strong individual outings and start-to-finish team fight were ultimately overshadowed by poor late-game execution. Leading 92-91 with 4 minutes, 40 seconds to go, Utah allowed Boston (43-15) to sink three deadly 3-pointers down the stretch. Two were fired home by the streamlined, soft touch of Ray Allen, who poured in a team-high 25 points. But it was Paul Pierce’s wide-open 3 from the right wing that gave the Celtics a 101-96 advantage with 1:56 remaining that killed the Jazz’s hope.

“They do a good job executing their stuff. You make a mistake, they make you pay for it,” Corbin said. “It’s a veteran ballclub. They’re used to being good and being good at this time of year. So, they’re still building toward something.”

Utah is building, too. Jefferson carried the Jazz throughout the second half of February, and is finally taking the dominant form the organization hoped for when he was acquired last summer to replace Carlos Boozer. Rookies Favors and Gordon Hayward showed a confident spark, while Harris, Millsap and Kirilenko performed like playoff-capable starters.

But a Jazz team still adjusting to the departures of former coaches Jerry Sloan and Phil Johnson, as well as All-Star guard Deron Williams, is also making major midseason adjustments during the wrong time of the year. Corbin acknowledged that there is no such thing as a moral victory when the playoffs are all that matter, while Harris said that a season that has just 21 contests left does not feature a pause button.

Afflalo's late 3 helps Nuggets hold off Jazz

Posted Mar 04 2011 2:36AM
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) Arron Afflalo hit a big shot in the final minute for the surprisingly surging Denver Nuggets and playfully stuck out his tongue.

He was smiling after the game, too, knowing the Nuggets nearly let a victory slip from their grasp.

Afflalo shook off a sore ankle to score 19 points, including a 3-pointer with 11.4 seconds to play, and the Denver Nuggets held off the Utah Jazz 103-101 Thursday night.

The Jazz had a chance to send the game into overtime, but Andrei Kirilenko fumbled the ball away under the basket as the buzzer sounded, never even getting off the potential game-tying layup.

"We were fortunate, there's no doubt about it. We almost let it get away," Afflalo said.

Ty Lawson scored 22 points, and Nene and Chris Andersen each added 13 to give the Nuggets their fifth win in six games since the deal that sent Carmelo Anthony and Chauncey Billups to New York.

Devin Harris, who had 21 points and nine assists, hit a 3-pointer with 1.2 seconds to play. Kirilenko stole the inbound pass under the basket but lost control as he went up for a shot.

"My brain stopped working," Kenyon Martin admitted after the game. Replays showed Martin, who was still out of bounds, touched the ball after Kirilenko stole it from him, but the referees didn't review it.

"We were just so happy to run off this court with a win, because we haven't been able to do that here very often over the years," Lawson said.

While the Nuggets have thrived since trading their All-Star, the Jazz have sunk since dealing theirs.

The Jazz have lost four of five since they traded star point guard Deron Williams to New Jersey. Utah dropped two games behind Memphis for the eighth and final slot in the Western Conference.

Utah has also lost seven straight at home - the team's worst home skid since 1982 - and is 1-6 under new coach Ty Corbin.

Against the most foul-prone team in the league, the Nuggets repeatedly took the ball to the basket down the stretch. Denver made 15 of 25 free throws in the fourth quarter alone. The Jazz attempted 12 free throws the entire game.

"We were attacking on screen-and-rolls the whole fourth quarter," Lawson said. "They were in the bonus early so I was determined to get it to the basket and get to the line, because free throws are the easiest way to score."

The Nuggets are the top-scoring team in the league at 107.5 points per game and have not dropped off offensively since the trade. But the new-look Nuggets have also clamped down on the defensive end.

Though the Jazz shot 52 percent, the Nuggets guarded best when the game was on the line.

"On defense, we got the stops when we needed to. That was the key," Afflalo said.

After Harris made a 3-pointer for Utah's last lead at 96-94, the Nuggets forced three straight turnovers.

"Big win, exactly what we needed," Denver coach George Karl said.

The Jazz led 90-85 on Al Jefferson's spinning layup, but the Nuggets scored nine straight points to make 94-90 with 3:45 remaining in the game.

"We got up five points and then we got away from what we were doing, took a couple bad shots and turned the ball over," Corbin said.
