Williams misfires late at stripe as Clippers get close win

LOS ANGELES (NBA.com exclusive) -- Once again, the Los Angeles Clippers found a way to succeed where others failed at Staples Center. They managed to overcome their own shortcomings and displayed a balanced brand of basketball.
And this time, it was against a playoff-caliber team.
All five starters scored in double figures and the Clippers led wire-to-wire in a 108-104 victory Monday against the visiting Utah Jazz, holding them off with precise 3-point shooting down the stretch and another solid night at the free-throw line.
"I feel like everyone is on the same page," said Clippers center Chris Kaman.
The Jazz, meanwhile, clanked away a chance to tie the score at the line in the final minute, and couldn't take advantage of 19 turnovers by the Clippers, including a career-high nine by point guard Baron Davis.
"They made good defensive plays on Baron," said Clippers interim coach Kim Hughes. "The officials let us be physical and let the players determine the game."

Against the Jazz (38-22), the Clippers shot 26-for-29 from the free-throw line, none more important than the two Rasual Butler swished with 15 seconds remaining, pushing their lead back to four.
On the previous possession, Deron Williams had gone to the line with 16.6 seconds left and a chance to tie the score, but the Utah point guard, a 79.1 percent shooter on the season, missed both attempts.
"I was disappointed in myself that I was not able to follow through," Williams said. "I was not expecting that."
Williams' misses and Butler's makes allowed the Clippers (25-35) to avoid a monumental collapse down the stretch. They led by 17 points with 6:28 remaining and by 12 with 2:38 left, but then gave up nine straight points.
Davis sank a wide-open jump shot to end the run with 43.3 seconds on the clock, but Kaman then committed an ill-advised foul on Williams as he drove to the basket, resulting in a 3-point play that cut the deficit to two.
Davis then committed his ninth turnover as he drove to the basket, but managed to get back on defense and foul Williams to prevent a game-tying layup. The first free-throw attempt by Williams rattled out, the second was short.
"We were not able to get over the hump," Williams said. "We gained too much confidence in the course of the game and were not able to redeem it in the fourth quarter."
Eric Gordon scored 13 of his team-high 24 points in the fourth quarter, converting all three of his 3-point tries. Drew Gooden had 19 points and 11 rebounds, Davis contributed 19 points and 12 assists and Kaman had 18 points and 14 rebounds.

Carlos Boozer, who scored 34 points when these teams met three weeks ago at Staples Center, a 109-99 victory by the Jazz, scored a team-high 20 points. Paul Millsap and Kyle Korver gave the Jazz a big lift off the bench, combining for 33 points, and Williams finished with 13 points, 13 assists and five steals.
The Jazz had been one of the hottest teams in the NBA over the last two months, posting a 20-5 record since Jan. 6. They had won seven of their last eight on the road. Still, they didn't look like the better team against the Clippers, falling behind by double-digits in the opening quarter and playing catch-up the rest of the way.
"We did not have control of this game and we knew that from the beginning," Boozer said.

With Williams leading way, Jazz again rally past Suns

PHOENIX (NBA.com exclusive) -- The Suns cannot seem to find a way to close out Utah.
Even worse, they cannot seem to get Steve Nash back to full health.
For the second time in as many meetings this season, the Suns lost a double-digit lead in the fourth quarter in a 116-108 loss, a game that could have pushed the Suns ahead of the Jazz into fourth place in the Western Conference seedings.
Guard Deron Williams, who always gives the Suns fits, had 13 of his 27 points in the fourth, either knifing through the lane for shots and assists or spotting up behind the three-point line.
Williams made three treys in the fourth, while teammates C.J. Miles and Mehmet Okur made two apiece as the Jazz overcame a 11-point deficit in the final 6 ?minutes. They outscored the Suns 41-22 in the fourth.
Nash, meanwhile, continues to be less than 100 percent because of back and lower abdomen issues that make it painful to pull on a pair of jeans, never mind going head-up against another of the best point guards in the league.
"I just have no thrust. Every movement my back tightens and tries to stop me from going somewhere. It's not a lot of fun to play like this," said Nash, who had 14 points, 15 assists and seven turnovers.
"I've been playing at a deficit for so long that I can't do the things I want to do. It's painful out there, but I have to find a way to suck it up. Generally it doesn't bother me as much as it has lately. It's been a pileup of games, and things going on.
"Cumulatively, it's been a stretch where it is tough. I keep have to keep working to get better and not get down about it. Nobody feels sorry for you in the Western Conference. You have to keep going. I'm sore when I wake up in the mornings now. It's something I have to fight through. I'm sure four games in five nights didn't help."
The Suns (39-25) played their fourth game in five days, and are 13-4 since Jan. 28. Utah is (39-22) after winning 16 of its last 20.
With backup point guard Goran Dragic (sprained right ankle) out after suffering an injury the night before in a 127-101 victory in Los Angeles against the Clippers and Leandro Barbosa (right hand) still recovering from surgery, the Suns used Grant Hill as a point forward when Nash was off the floor.
Hill had 17 points, seven rebounds and three assists in 37 minutes, and Amar'e Stoudemire had 30 points and 13 rebounds. Jason Richardson added 22 points. The Suns shot 57.5 percent but were outrebounded 43-38 and had 19 turnovers that the Jazz converted to 23 points.
Okur had 24 points and Miles had 15, with his back-to-back 3-pointers cutting the Suns' 96-85 lead to 96-91, part of a 13-2 Jazz run.
The Suns arrived home about 2 a.m. Thursday, 18 ?hours before the game, and coach Alvin Gentry said he believed fatigue might have been a factor.
"I really thought we kind of ran out of gas at the end, and that's really asking a lot of Grant and Steve," Suns coach Alvin Gentry said.
"They spread the floor, and Deron Williams is a real tough cover. He's such a physical player. He kind of bounces us around in there. It's not so much of what we didn't do, it's what they did do."
Williams' 3-pointer with 1:37 remaining broke a tie at 106 and began a 10-2 closing run.
Okur's 3-pointer made it 112-108, and from then the Jazz had the extra oomph -- Carlos Boozer blocked a Channing Frye 3-point attempt, Andrei Kirilenko had a steal (his second in the final 2 ?minutes) and Kirilenko then snuck in for an offensive rebound after a missed free throw in the final 36 seconds to deny the Suns a possession.
"We were able to get some stops and hit some big shots," Jazz coach Jerry Sloan said.
In the previous meeting Jan. 25, the Jazz trailed by 17 points in the third quarter before taking a 124-115, when they outscored the Suns by 33-19 in the fourth.
"We've played this team twice and both times they were able to jump out and somehow we were able to come back. Let me tell you they have been some incredible games," Boozer said.
"The fact that [if] they win this game they take over fourth ... this was a huge win for us, and we were able to get a little separation between us. It just shows a lot about our team."

    平凡的看是如此，但最近爵士队很飘浮不定，就像输给不该输的球队（Hawks, Kings, Clippers) 无疑在新年其间他们的客场战绩很出色，但是当Brewer被送走后 ...再到了AK47的受伤；归队后....真的很飘浮不定罗....

德隆夫妇已成爵士队内佳话 朋友见证几乎从未吵架  

德隆在上小学时就认识了艾米·扬，一路走来，两人的爱情已成为爵士队内的一段佳话。2006年，德隆和艾米正式步入了婚姻殿堂，之后，艾米为德隆生了两个女儿和一个儿子，名字分别是迪奈、戴佳和D.J.。

　　当上爸爸后，德隆变得更加细心，他非常注意照顾自己的孩子，从饮食到玩乐，从睡觉到学习，可以说是无微不至。只要有时间，德隆就愿意呆在家里陪伴孩子们。

　　“他是一个了不起的父亲，我知道有很多人都不了解这一点，因为德隆从来不把自己的孩子带到聚光灯下，”米特尼克说，“他一直很注意保护自己的个人生活，不愿让家人受到半点伤害。但我可以告诉你，每次看到他和孩子们在一起，我心里就会有一种特别的感动，他绝对是一个称职的好老爸。”

　　米特尼克还透露说，德隆和艾米认识近二十年，但他几乎没有见他们俩吵过架。“他们俩都深爱着对方，毫无疑问，他们天生就应该是一对，”米特尼克说。

   犹他爵士队坐镇主场能源解决中心球馆迎战洛杉矶快船队，这是双方在本周之内的第二次交手，上次交锋以爵士队落败而告终，最终经过四节激战，爵士以107-85逆转战胜对手完成复仇，而快船则遭遇客场六连败。

爵士方面，全队六人得分上双，德隆-威廉姆斯10分10助攻，卡洛斯-布泽尔17分17篮板，梅米特-奥库27分7篮板，韦斯利-马修斯11分，替补出场的C.J.迈尔斯和科沃尔分别得到11分和12分。

快船方面，德鲁-古登20分12篮板，巴朗-戴维斯11分8助攻，克里斯-卡曼12分13篮板，拉苏尔-巴特勒11分。

首节比赛，基里连科的自投自抢扣篮率先为爵士队打开局面，然而快船却依靠古登的跳投和戴维斯的三分球还以颜色。爵士在此后1分30秒内一分未得，而快船这边拉苏尔-巴特勒却连得6分，本节比赛还剩下7分50秒时，巴特勒三分中的，快船以15-5领先。奥库和德隆此后率队进行追分，本节比赛还剩下3分41秒时，奥库勾手投篮命中，爵士将比分追至17-22。但是，快船依靠布雷克和古登的得分稳住局面，本节比赛结束时，客队以32-26暂时领先。

进入最后的第四节，卡曼和科林斯帮助快船将分差缩小为9分。但是，科沃尔再度命中三分球，奥库中投得手，爵士在比赛还剩下6分09秒时将比分改写为94-78。快船被迫请求暂停。暂停回来，手感火热的奥库先后命中跳投和关键的三分球，爵士在比赛还剩下3分06秒时将分差拉开至19分。快船奋力展开反击，但是为时已晚，最终败走盐湖城。

    Jazz turn around after slow start for win over Clippers

SALT LAKE CITY (NBA.com exclusive) -- The Utah Jazz continued their bad habit of starting games slowly, but it hardly mattered against a team they own in their building.
The Jazz overcame a 10-point deficit in the first quarter to defeat the Los Angeles Clippers 107-85 on Saturday night. It was Utah's (40-22) 14th straight home win over the Clippers (25-38). The Jazz are 35-1 in their last 36 home games against Los Angeles.
"Great game," said Jazz forward Carlos Boozer, who recorded his 40th double-double of the season with 17 points and 14 rebounds. "They kicked our butt in the first quarter, but we turned it up after that. The next three quarters were ours."
The Clippers were supposed to have tired legs in the early going after playing at home against Oklahoma City on Friday night. But they took it to the Jazz early on, building a 15-5 lead. Rasual Butler led the charge, hitting a 3-pointer and converting a three-point play.
It took until the second half for L.A. to show some fatigue. The Jazz slowly pulled away in the third quarter, and went up 83-69 when Wesley Matthews scored on a fast-break dunk. A 20-2 run in the fourth quarter turned the game into a rout, giving the Jazz a 107-80 lead.
The Clippers defeated the Jazz in Los Angeles on Monday, 108-104, in a game that they never trailed.
"Obviously these guys give us some trouble," said Jazz coach Jerry Sloan. "They got out and got after us in the first quarter, just like they did when we played them down there."
The game changed because the Jazz started playing more patiently on offense. They played inside-outside, rather than jacking up shots from the perimeter. Taking care of the ball certainly helped, as Utah committed just six turnovers in the contest.
"We took control of the game," Boozer said. "We executed offensively, we got good stops, and it really happened in the second half. It was great to see us turn it up like that."
Mehmet Okur played a big role in Utah's win, scoring 27 points on 11-for-17 shooting and grabbing seven rebounds. He made three 3-pointers, and was also active in driving to the basket and playing solid defense.
"I'm feeling good now," Okur said. "I got my confidence back a little bit and my teammates are telling me to shoot it, shoot it, shoot it."
It was the first time this season Okur has scored 20-plus points in back-to-back games.
"He's cookin' man, that guy," Boozer said. "When he shoots the ball like that, we just go to a different level offensively. He spreads the court for us, opens that middle and I thought he was going for 50 tonight. He was on fire."
So were the rest of the Jazz. Utah dramatically improved its shooting percentage after it shot 36 percent in the first quarter. The Jazz made 45.8 percent of their shots in the second quarter and 54.5 percent in the third. They only shot 45.5 percent in the fourth quarter, but that's when they put the game away.
"We got some baskets inside and didn't just rely on our perimeter shots," Sloan said. "The first quarter the ball didn't go inside too much and after that we executed in the half-court and seemed to get pretty good shots."
Deron Williams overcame some early foul trouble to efficiently run Utah's offense. He finished with 10 points and 10 assists. It was his 31st double-double of the season.
Utah's blowout victory gave newly signed Othyus Jeffers the chance to make his NBA debut. Jeffers, signed out of the NBA Development League's Iowa team to a 10-day contract on Wednesday, entered the game with 2:20 remaining and had two points, a rebound and an assist.

CHICAGO (NBA.com exclusive) -- The Chicago Bulls really tried to stay with the visiting Utah Jazz.

But after a rollicking first half of trading basket after basket, the Bulls could not maintain the offensive pace and eventually succumbed again to a more successful team that is on a very impressive run through the league.

Deron Williams scored 28 points and had 17 assists, and C.J. Miles went 9-for-12 from the field (6-for-7 from 3-point range) to lead the Jazz to a 132-108 victory that was not as easy as the final score would indicate. The Jazz shot 54.2 percent for the game (45 for 83) while the Bulls shot 53.9 percent (41 for 76).

Bulls guard Derrick Rose had 25 points and tied his career high with 13 assists but the Bulls lost their fifth straight game dating back to the last game played by center Joakim Noah, who has been sidelined by plantar fasciitis.

The last four losses have all been at home against teams with winning records. The Bulls (31-32) are headed for a four-game road trip to Orlando, Miami, Memphis and Dallas beginning Thursday.

The Jazz (41-22) were looking to avoid an upset loss in the first of four road consecutive games in order to maintain their position right behind Denver in the NBA's Northwest Division. The Jazz have won 18 of their last 22 games and 22 of their last 27.

For the fans, the game turned into an offensive showcase for dueling point guards Williams and Rose. Williams was playing before an audience that still appreciates him for his efforts with the University of Illinois a few years ago.

"I like to see guys compete out there,'' Utah coach Jerry Sloan said. "Tonight those guys competed hard the whole game. "

"He's a great player,'' Rose said of Williams. "He is always someone I looked up to. He really puts pressure on your team and that's what he did against us."

The game turned in the middle of the third quarter but not before the Bulls put on an impressive, if momentary, display of defense.

The Bulls made four steals in a two-minute stretch, capped by a theft that led to a fast break layup by Kirk Hinrich to tie the game at 77 with 5:23 left. But the Jazz scored 11 of the next 12 points in the game as the Bulls missed four straight shots and committed a pair of turnovers.

When Miles hit a 3-pointer with 1:35 left, the Jazz had a 90-78 lead and the Bulls were out of steam, physically and emotionally.

In the fourth quarter, while Miles was hitting long-range shots and the Bulls were still making foolish mistakes with the basketball, Bulls forward Luol Deng left the game with a right leg strain. The Bulls also got zero points and one rebound from starting forward Taj Gibson, who fouled out after playing just 12:34 of the game.

"We played well enough offensively,' Bulls coach Vinny Del Negro said. "But we cannot control the paint right now, and we are not controlling the ball well enough."

"I thought we were more focused in the second half,'' Williams said. "We were soft in the second half but not as soft [as in the first]. Our defense isn't where it needs to be."

The Jazz had seven players in double figures, including Paul Millsap scoring 16 points and grabbing nine rebounds (six offensive) off the bench. Carlos Boozer had a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds.

Bulls center Brad Miller had 20 points for the Bulls.

The Jazz, the league's best shooting team, made their first five shots of the game and ran out to a 12-4 lead. But the Bulls finally forced a couple of misses and hit three shots in a row to move back to within a point, and the rest of the first quarter was close.

The Jazz shot 61 percent (14 for 23) in the first quarter, but the Bulls were better, shooting 67 percent (12 for 18), and that included three 3-pointers. The Bulls rank last in the league in 3-pointers made per game, averaging just under four 3-pointers a game.

The sharp shooting continued for the Bulls through the second quarter. At halftime the Bulls were still shooting over 60 percent (25 for 40, 62.5 percent) even though they were losing 63-61 because the Jazz kept rebounding their own misses. The Jazz had six offensive rebounds they turned into five points, while the Bulls did not have a single offensive board by halftime.

The Bulls did match the Jazz in 3-pointers in the first half, with each team hitting six. Miller was three for three from way outside and had 15 points for the Bulls at the break.

"Miller was out there with nobody within five feet of him shooting 3s,'' Sloan said. "We did yell at him, though."

Williams and Rose had a nice statistical matchup going through the first half. Williams had a double-double at the break with 16 points and 10 assists while Rose had 10 points and 11 assists at halftime.

"The first half was like a pickup game,'' Sloan said. "We couldn't stop them and they couldn't stop us. We played a better second half defensively."

威廉姆斯攻下28分的同时送出赛季最高的17次助攻，CJ米尔斯斩获赛季最高的26分，爵士客场132-108大胜公牛，威廉姆斯也在与罗斯的较量中完胜对手。

爵士打好一节就赢球了 斯隆:防守却难令人满意

大部分NBA都会对球队在两场比赛一共砍下247分感到欣喜，特别是在接连做客的比赛。然而，爵士主帅斯隆对此不以为然。
在面对公牛拿到132分后，爵士乘胜追击，以115-104战胜了活塞。

不过斯隆对爵士的防守并不满意。他说：“我关注的不是我们的得分，而是我们的防守。这是集中精神的问题，象今晚下半场这样失去专注是没有借口的。”

爵士在第二节打出35-14的比分后，就再也没有被对手威胁过，尽管下半场让活塞拿到了61分。

斯隆继续说：“我觉得我们第二节打得棒极了，不过下半场他们向我们发起了反击，我必须做出一些换人，因为我们有些球员在做秀而不只是想赢下比赛。”
