Posted: 8:12 PM- CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Emeka Okafor had 21 points, Matt Carroll scored all 16 of his points in the fourth quarter to prevent Utah from pulling off another dramatic comeback, and the Charlotte Bobcats held on for a 101-89 win over the Jazz on Friday night.
    Okafor also had 10 rebounds, Raymond Felton added 18 points and 12 assists and Primoz Brezec had 14 points and 11 rebounds for the Bobcats, whose 20-point halftime lead was whittled to four with just over 4 minutes left.

    Okur made only one of his five three-pointers, but for the third time in six days, he altered the finish of a game with a clutch rainbow from 24 feet. This time, it delivered a 100-97 victory over the Grizzlies, and a 3-2 holiday-week trip that remains open to interpretation.

    He liked how the regulars played at the end, when the Grizzlies tried to feed the ball to Pau Gasol, their usual Jazz-killer. The Jazz put Okur on Gasol, back only a week from a broken foot. but ran help defense at him every time he touched it. Four of Memphis' final five possessions went in to Gasol, but the Spaniard could manage only one shot, an off-balance layup that trickled away.

    The other times, Gasol was forced to pass. And when Dahntay Jones, Stoudamire and, on the Grizzlies' most important possession of the night, Brian Cardinal - Brian Cardinal? - couldn't convert from outside, the Jazz's 20th victory, and first ever in the FedEx Forum, was finally secured.

SAN ANTONIO, Dec. 28 (AP) -- Just two days after watching the Spurs give up more points than they had all season, San Antonio coach Gregg Popovich saw something he was more accustomed to Thursday night. Tony Parker scored 22 points and the Spurs played smothering defense to beat Utah 106-83, San Antonio's 15th consecutive home victory over the Jazz. "I recognized the team that was out there tonight,'' Popovich said. San Antonio gave up 114 points in a loss on Tuesday to Milwaukee. But the Jazz could only shoot 42 percent from the floor. They committed 17 turnovers and had eight shots blocked. The Jazz even had trouble from the free-throw line, hitting 19-of-32 foul shots for less than 60 percent. Tim Duncan added 20 points for the Spurs and had three blocked shots.

Utah 96, Portland 86  Salt Lake City, Dec. 30 (AP) -- Zach Randolph put on a show, but good team basketball won the game for the Utah Jazz.  Mehmet Okur scored 20 points, Carlos Boozer added 19 points and 10 rebounds, and the Jazz beat the Portland Trail Blazers 96-86 on Saturday night. Seven Jazz players scored at least eight points.  
"They've got players,'' Randolph said. "Deron (Williams) at the point and Mehmet shooting the ball, they've got a complete team. Boozer is a tough player. They're going to be real good, a playoff team.''

The Jazz rallied after shooting 34 percent in the first half by going 20-for-38 in the second and beat the travel-weary Philadelphia 76ers 98-87 Wednesday night. Carlos Boozer scored 22 of his 27 points in the second half and Matt Harpring had 12 of his 20 in the third quarter as the Jazz started to go inside on the Sixers, who have been on the road since Dec. 26.

　　本赛季首战，雄赳赳气昂昂信心爆棚的火箭队便是在客场让爵士一闷棍打了个晕头转向。让姚麦着实郁闷了很久，憋了一肚子火的火箭队终于等来了复仇机会。本场比赛，火箭队在麦迪的带领下，一开场便像疯了一般，向兵强马壮的爵士队发起了凶猛的冲击，开局便以11：0打的爵士队满地找牙。麦迪更像是一头打了鸡血的烈马在爵士队的半场左冲右突，外投内扣，全场狂砍44分，并得到9个篮板，老将穆托姆博更是充满斗志抢得19个篮板，为火箭队的胜利立下了汗马功

Denver's zone was keeping such a close eye on Boozer - Utah's leading scorer and rebounder - that he had no operating room. "It was hard to get him the ball,'' Williams said. So Williams did something about it, hitting four 3-pointers and tying a career high with 28 points to lead the Jazz over the Nuggets, 96-84, on Saturday night. Denver had little choice but to pay more attention to Williams, which, in turn, opened up Boozer, who finished with 24 points, including 14 in the final quarter. "D-Will was like, 'Hang in there, we're going to get it to you,''' said Boozer, who had just four points in the first half. "Sure enough, it opened up.''

　　特约记者王真报道 西部的大前锋位置的竞争历来十分激烈，每一年的全明星赛前，都会有联盟的顶尖大前锋遗憾落选。不是他们的表现不优秀，而是在西部的天才大前锋实在太多。
　　本赛季长期稳定在“20+10俱乐部”的只有5名球员，而这5名球员中竟然有4名是西部的大前锋，分别是加内特、邓肯、布泽和兰多夫。另外，诺维茨基、加索尔和马里昂也是顶尖大前锋。但是按照惯例，全明星赛大前锋位置上的球员顶多也只有4名，这就意味着他们中将有3人遗憾落选。
　　加内特和邓肯几乎已经铁定成为首发前锋，而诺维茨基也几乎可以肯定会以替补前锋身份入选。这样一来，布泽、兰多夫、马里昂和加索尔很可能将竞争最后一个大前锋席位。

Gilbert Arenas made a 3-pointer at the buzzer to cap a 51-point performance in the Washington Wizards' 114-111 victory over the Utah Jazz on Monday. Arenas left the court to a chorus of "M-V-P! M-V-P!'' "MVP? That trophy is given out at the end of the year,'' Arenas said. "This is (37) games into the season so you can't do too much about it. "Right now, Steve Nash is above everybody. You have to really do something dramatic in this league. If Kobe averages 35 with an 81 and he didn't get it, you have to do something else in this league to overtake what Steve Nash has done.'' Arena matched the Verizon Center record of 51 points set by Michael Jordan against the Charlotte Hornets on Dec. 29, 2001. He also joined Kobe Bryant as the only player since Jordan in 1988-89 to score at least 50 points three times in a 15-game span, and he is the first Wizard to record three 50-point games in one season. Deron Williams scored a career-high 31 points, had 10 assists and made a 3-pointer with 44 seconds left to help the Utah Jazz hold off Detroit for a 100-99 victory Wednesday night. The Pistons had a chance to win after a timeout with 5.1 seconds left, but Billups missed a 3-pointer just before the buzzer. Mehmet Okur had 10 of his 22 points in the fourth quarter to help Utah improve to 4-0 over the last two seasons against his former team and to end a four-game losing streak. "We always seem to play well against the Pistons,'' Williams said. "But this one was important to stop the bleeding.'' Utah's Carlos Boozer had 20 points and nine rebounds and reserve Matt Harpring added 10 points.

Mehmet Okur scored 27 points and Carlos Boozer had 23 points and 19 rebounds to lead Utah to a 102-94 victory over the Toronto Raptors. Deron Williams added 16 points and eight assists for the Jazz, who have won two straight following a four-game losing skid. Kirilenko, who has complained about his role, had eight points, six assists, five rebounds and a key steal down the stretch. Jazz owner Larry Miller said in a radio interview Thursday that Kirilenko was "putting himself on thin ice'' by struggling and complaining. Kirilenko said he's felt more involved the last two games. "It's a 100 percent difference. When you see that your needed on the floor it's another business,'' Kirilenko said. "I don't think I ask a lot. I didn't ask for shots. I never said I needed shots. I need touches, that's different. I think the last two games you see the difference.''

"We had a real good finish because I thought we executed pretty well,'' said Sloan, who saw his team convert seven of its last eight possessions while beating the Minnesota Timberwolves 106-91 on Monday night. Mehmet Okur scored 28 points and Boozer had 10 points in a three-minute stretch of the fourth quarter to lead the Jazz to their fourth straight win. Sloan, who is the longest tenured coach in any major professional sport, has been running many of the same plays for 19 years. But when the Jazz run them right, they are tough to stop. "They make easy baskets,'' said Minnesota's Kevin Garnett, who returned from a one-game suspension with 17 points and 11 rebounds. "They play together and they have a nice nucleus for the future. Jones' 22-foot jumper in the final second of overtime gave the Memphis Grizzlies a 132-130 win over the Utah Jazz on Wednesday night, ending a 10-game road losing streak. "We definitely needed it. We're having a tough year, so it took a lot of fight. It took a lot of effort,'' Gasol said. And it took a whole lot of 3-pointers. The Grizzlies finished 16-for-26 from 3-point range (61.5 percent) and were able to win for just the third time on the road this season despite getting outrebounded 56-35. "It feels good to work for it and get that reward,'' said Gasol, who finished with 17 points, 12 assists and 13 rebounds. Gasol's presence inside opened up some of the Grizzlies' outside shooters. Chucky Atkins, who had 29 points and 15 assists, was 6-for-10 on 3-pointers and Jones, who scored 19, made 3-of-6 from beyond the arc. Carlos Boozer scored a career-high 39 points and Deron Williams had 21 assists for the Jazz, also a career best.

Utah 116, Denver 111 SALT LAKE CITY, Jan. 26 (AP) -- The Denver Nuggets appeared poised to gain ground on first-place Utah in the Northwest Division. Then their superstar tag-team of Carmelo Anthony and Allen Iverson got knocked a step back - by two rookies. Ronnie Brewer scored six of his 12 points in the fourth quarter and Paul Millsap added two blocks in the final period, rallying the Jazz from an 11-point deficit to a 116-111 victory Friday night and extending their division lead to five games over Denver. "They were phenomenal. They came in and gave us a boost off the bench. They were scoring, they were blocking shots, they were rebounding. They gave us energy,'' said Carlos Boozer, who had 25 points and 19 rebounds for the Jazz. "They did a great job. I'm really proud of the young guys.'' Iverson and Anthony put on a show, but it wasn't enough to overcome the Jazz. Anthony scored 37 points in his third game back from a 15-game suspension and Iverson had 33 points and six assists. Marcus Camby added 21 points and 10 rebounds, but no other Nuggets player scored more than five. Deron Williams had 16 points and 12 assists for Utah, making four straight free throws in the final minute. The Jazz went 10-for-10 from the line in the fourth quarter two nights after missing 12 foul shots in an overtime loss to Memphis. "I looked over in the fourth quarter and I told everybody, 'Man, this is a playoff game,''' Williams said. "I haven't been in one, but I knew this is how they felt. It went down to every possession.'' Utah lost Andrei Kirilenko to a sprained ankle in the second quarter and coach Jerry Sloan had to go to his younger players, especially with the foul trouble Anthony and Iverson were causing.
