Steven Gerrard In Liverpool XI For Tonight's Tranmere Rovers Friendly

Liverpool's talismanic captain Steven Gerrard was today cleared of affray in Liverpool Crown Court, and the attacking midfielder has moved to quickly put the case behind him, as he has been included in the Reds team which tonight faces Tranmere Rovers in a pre-season friendly at Prenton Park.

The Reds' first team squad is currently away on tour in Asia, but the Reds have sent a second-string outfit to play their neighbours from the other side of the Mersey, who are now managed by ex-Liverpool legend John Barnes.

Gerrard was cleared of any wrongdoing earlier today, after the court ruled that he was acting in self-defence when a brawl erupted in a Southport bar at Christmas time.

The player had expressed relief at the verdict, stating that he was now looking forward to the season ahead, whilst his manager, Rafa Benitez, speaking from Singapore, echoed those sentiments.

It would seem that the process of doing so has started immediately, which will doubtless please fans of Gerrard everywhere.
