爵士爆冷在主场输给国王!
个人认为有两个原因:
1。国王新秀奇兵 Tyreke Evans
2。国王改变防守策略 Zone Defense
爵士要好好检讨一下
Kings rookie Evans comes up big in victory over Jazz
Andrew Aragon, for NBA.com
Posted Sunday November 8, 2009 1:18AM
SALT LAKE CITY (NBA.com exclusive) -- All it took for Sacramento Kings rookie Tyreke Evans to get in a rhythm was a couple of easy baskets.
In the second quarter of the Kings' shocking 104-99 win over the Utah Jazz on Saturday night, Evans made two dunks in transition in a span of 15 seconds. He gained some confidence from the easy baskets and Utah paid the price.
Evans scored a career-high 32 points to lead Sacramento to its second win of the season. He scored 12 of his points in the second quarter when the Kings completely erased a 15-point deficit. A switch to playing zone defense that led to several Sacramento fast breaks, with Evans leading the charge, changed the momentum in the game.
"That's the style of play I always liked to play at Memphis - up and down the court, fast breaks," Evans said. "Once I got that going, I got into a rhythm. Once I get a rhythm going I think I'm unstoppable."
The Jazz could hardly dispute how tough Evans, who played one season at Memphis, was to guard on Saturday. He displayed an arsenal of post moves, jump shots and an ability to finish in transition. He made a couple of 3-pointers. He had 19 free-throw attempts, after taking just 20 foul shots in Sacramento's first five games.
"What took him so long?" joked Kings coach Paul Westphal. "It's only his sixth game [as a pro]. He's a very special player."
He'll also be one that the Kings rely on. Sacramento played its first game without leading scorer Kevin Martin, who suffered a wrist fracture and will have surgery on Monday to fix it. Martin will be out of action for about two months. He averaged 30.6 points in Sacramento's first five games.
Beno Udrih started in Martin's place and scored 15 points. He made a couple of layups in the final minute to help the Kings hold off a late charge by the Jazz.
"It shows a lot about the heart of our team," Westphal said of beating the Jazz. "It's really hard for anybody to come in here and get a win and after the week we had and we get off to a bad start and still found a way to win that game against a very good team. It makes me feel very proud of those guys."
Without Martin, the Kings will have to scrap together enough offense and defense to be successful like they were against the Jazz. Things looked grim early in Saturday's game when Utah jumped out to a quick 15-point lead in the second quarter. A suggestion by Kings assistant coach Jim Eyen to start playing zone defense helped turn the tide in Sacramento's favor.
The Kings quickly got back into the game, tying it at 43-43 after trailing 39-24. Evans scored eight points during the run and assisted on another basket.
"We went to it and it kept working and all of the sudden we were back in the game," Westphal said. "We just kind of fed off the momentum of what we got off that decision."
Jazz guard Deron Williams said Sacramento's switch to zone was the turning point.
"That's where it started," he said. "When they went zone, our offense got a little stagnant which is what they were trying to do. They forced a couple turnovers and they got some confidence and started hitting some shots."
The Kings took control in the third quarter. After falling behind 60-55, they scored 19 consecutive points, holding Utah scoreless for 6 full minutes. The Jazz shot 6-for-17 while scoring 13 points in the third quarter.
Offensively, the Kings had great ball movement, opening things up for their shooters on the perimeter. Sacramento was deadly from 3-point range, draining 11 of 19 3-point attempts. Andres Nocioni made four of the team's 3-pointers.
For the Jazz, the loss was a major setback. They were coming off an impressive 14-point win over San Antonio on Thursday, and looked to be building off of that victory in the early going against the Kings. But that wasn't the case, and the Jazz fell to 2-4 on the season, the same record Sacramento now has.
"I thought we'd come with a lot more energy," said Jazz coach Jerry Sloan. "We had energy there for a little bit, it looked like we were going to be in pretty good shape, and then all of the sudden we started taking shots and not executing our offense, and pretty soon they put some guys out there that we didn't defend well." |

Knicks jolted by Jazz at the Garden
Adam Zagoria, for NBA.com
Posted Monday November 9, 2009 11:11PM
NEW YORK (NBA.com exclusive) -- Once again the Knicks fell behind by 20 or more points early. Once again they made a frenetic run late. And once again they came up short in the end.
The Utah Jazz became the latest team to come into Madison Square Garden and beat the Knicks, 95-93, before a crowd of 19,355.
Andrei Kirilenko scored 14 of his 23 points in the second half, when he went a perfect 4-for-4 from beyond the arc against New York's newly-installed 2-3 zone. Carlos Boozer added 23 points and 14 rebounds and Mehmet Okur had 18 and 12.
"We got a good win after having some tough losses and move forward," Boozer said.
Rookie Toney Douglas scored a career-high 21 points on 9-of-13 shooting for New York, but missed an off-balance nine-footer as time expired on the Knicks.
Knicks coach Mike D'Antoni said Larry Hughes was supposed to get the inbounds pass from Danilo Gallinari and take the shot, but Douglas got the ball instead. He drove into the paint before faking out Utah's Deron Williams and putting up a shot that rolled off the rim.
"It was supposed to be Larry but sometimes things ain't going to work out like the way it goes, so you got to adjust to that," Douglas said. "At least we got a shot up, that's how I feel."
Coming off Sunday's loss to Sacramento, Utah improved to 3-4. The Jazz close out the week with a tough stretch of road games at Boston, Philadelphia and Cleveland. The Knicks lost their fourth straight and dropped to 1-7.
"A loss is a loss," said Knicks center David Lee, who scored 12 points. "Unfortunately, this counts the same way as the Milwaukee one [Sunday] does although the Milwaukee game feels like about 10 losses with how we played. I can't live with losing, but I feel like we're doing better with tonight's game than we did."
Utah outrebounded the Knicks, 53-40, including 12-7 on the offensive glass.
The Jazz also outshot the Knicks, 46 percent to 43 percent, including 38 percent to 28 percent from beyond the arc.
The Knicks watched tape of Sacramento's win over Utah and installed a 2-3 zone to imitate Sacramento's success.
It didn't work early, as the Jazz led by as many as 21 points in the third quarter, but it paid dividends down the stretch. After missing all 10 of their first-half 3-point attempts and trailing 48-31 at the break, the Knicks shot 8-of-19 from beyond the arc in the second half and outscored the Jazz, 62-47.
"I think a lot has to do with the zone," Jazz coach Jerry Sloan said. "Every time the zone has come at us we couldn't really get out and get way away from them and have enough success in three or four possessions."
请注意,Sloan 已经注意到其他球队开始采用 Zone defense 来克制爵士的半场进攻战术。

Jazz take down Sixers behind rookie backcourt
Andy Jasner, for NBA.com
Posted Friday November 13, 2009 10:58PM
PHILADELPHIA (NBA.com exclusive) -- The two highest-priced players on the Philadelphia 76ers have been inconsistent to say the least through nine games this season.
Elton Brand -- the club's marquee free-agent forward signed before last season -- and Andre Iguodala will be the key to the Sixers' success in 2009-10.
Iguodala had 11 points and 10 assists while Brand scored 11 points but the Sixers were ousted by the Utah Jazz, 112-90, on Friday.
Brand, who inked an $80 million contract, had been on the bench in four of the previous five games and he was there once again for the final 12 minutes. Iguodala was coming off a nine-point performance at New Jersey on Wednesday. In the past three games, Iguodala has been to the free throw line six times.
The Sixers will go as this duo goes. And it has been a struggle.
Brand (9.5 points per game, 5.6 rebounds per game) is well off his career averages of 20 points and 10 rebounds per game. Iguodala has played well in spurts, but has not shown the ability to string together strong games as consistently as other players of his caliber.
"For us, defense is the key," Brand said. "Guys are walking in the lane. Guys are getting offensive rebounds and getting wide-open shots."
Added Iguodala, "Our offense will be there. Right now, our defense has to get better."
As for the Jazz, well, they're just trying to get healthy. They had only nine players for this game after star point guard Deron Williams was excused from the team to attend to a family medical issue. Williams may rejoin the Jazz for Saturday's game at Cleveland, which is the conclusion of a four-game road trip.
Utah didn't have the likes of Matt Harpring, Ronnie Price, Kyle Korver and C.J. Miles.
Rookie guards Wesley Matthews and Eric Maynor were each rewarded with their first career start. Matthews (16 points) and Maynor (13 points, 11 assists) sure took advantage of the situation.
"John Stockton sat on the bench for two-and-a-half years behind Rickey Green," Utah coach Jerry Sloan said. "You see how bad guys want to play."
Maynor was especially effective running the offense and didn't force shots like many rookies.
"I was excited when coach told me I was playing," said Maynor, who was selected 20th overall from Virginia Commonwealth. "I'm a confident player so I wasn't nervous. I was much more excited. It's a great opportunity. I just had fun with it. We have another game to play (Saturday), so I've got to come right back and be ready again."
Matthews, who was undrafted from Marquette, took a similar approach.
"I've been motivated since the draft when I wasn't taken," said Matthews. "I come in every day with the attitude of giving it my all. I always feel like I have a lot to prove. I think it's good because it keeps me motivated every single day."
Matthews controlled the tempo in the first half with a 14-point outburst. Paul Millsap added 14 points in the opening half and the Jazz committed only three turnovers while shooting 54 percent from the field.
Carlos Boozer (24 points and 12 rebounds) was one of seven Utah players in double figures, and the Jazz pushed their lead to as much as 26 in the second half.
Despite being shorthanded, the Jazz didn't change their approaches on offense or defense.
They moved the ball with precision on offense and found a number of layups on backdoor cuts. Nothing new here as long as Sloan has patrolled the sideline since 1988.
On defense, the Jazz rotated to the shooter and boxed out so as to avoid any Sixers offensive rebounds.
Sure, it's simple. But that's been Sloan's style all these years.
"We knew we didn't have the bodies here, but we had to play our game," said Boozer. "That's what I really like about this team. We don't change no matter who's in and who's out. There's consistency in how we prepare and how we play."

Hickson continues to provide punch as Cavs tip Jazz
Sam Amico, for NBA.com
Posted Saturday November 14, 2009
CLEVELAND (NBA.com exclusive) -- The Cleveland Cavaliers once had a Carlos Boozer in the lineup and now they hope to have found another. And they put those hopes to the test Saturday night against none other than Boozer himself. The subject in question is second-year power forward J.J. Hickson, who made his fourth consecutive start in the Cavs' thrilling 107-103 victory over the visiting Utah Jazz. Hickson spent most of the evening matched up with Boozer, a one-time promising Cavalier who has yet to be forgiven by Cleveland fans after he bolted for Utah in 2004. Since Boozer's departure, the Cavs have struggled to arm LeBron James with a consistent scoring power forward who can get to the rim and pull down rebounds.
。。。
As for the Jazz, the odds were clearly against them. Injury and illness left them with just nine players, and they were coming off a hard-fought win the previous night in Philadelphia. Among the missing was starting point guard Deron Williams, who wasn't with the team for the second straight night because of personal reasons. Still, the Jazz fought valiantly behind the staples of every Jerry Sloan-coached unit, implementing tons of hustle and plain old guts to keep things close.
No one exemplified those characteristics more than Boozer, who practically willed the ball into the basket in finishing with 25 points, to go along with a game-high 12 boards. And if nothing else, the Jazz showed the world they have a couple of good ones in rookie guards Eric Maynor and Wesley Matthews, both of whom started and played at least 34 minutes. Maynor ran the team to near-perfection in finishing with 24 points, earning a congratulatory pat on the back from James after the final buzzer. Matthews had 13 points on 5-for-9 shooting, including 3-for-3 on 3-pointers. "In the first quarter, it looked like we didn't think we could win, but at least we got back in it," Sloan said. "Eric did a tremendous job of getting us in our offense. He gave us opportunities."
Sloan spoke the truth, as the Jazz actually had several chances to win it -- taking their first lead (97-96) with 1:56 left on a pair of Boozer free throws. The lead alternated after that, with Utah holding a 101-100 edge with 33 seconds left. But then James proved why he's the reigning MVP, taking over the game and scoring on a drive to the basket in which he also got fouled at the 28-second mark. He hit the ensuing free throw, and while the Cavs may have had to bite their nails in nervousness, they never trailed again. Not long after James' heroic basket, Jazz forward Andrei Kirilenko missed a long 3-pointer. The Jazz were forced to foul, and James made two more foul shots with 20 seconds left. He then made two more to seal the deal in the final 10 seconds. "It's tough," Boozer said. "They had a big lead on us but we stayed with it. It'll be hard to sleep with this one because we had a chance to win." |
