Goal.com looks at the best performing players from round one of the Serie A calendar...

BEST XI
Formation: 3-5-2
Goalkeeper
Alfonso De Lucia (Livorno): The former Parma shot stopper was in excellent form and a big reason that the Amaranto’s return to Serie A was worth a point, with a great reaction save on Alessandro Matri’s bouncing effort.
Defence
Simon Kjaer (Palermo): The young centre-back picked up where he left off in Spring 2009, a solid performance at the back by the Dane was a necessary component of the Rosanero’s opening day victory over Napoli.
Fabio Cannavaro (Juventus): Some sections of the club’s supporters originally did not welcome the return of the veteran centre-back, but his performance against Chievo should go a long way to changing their minds. Some of his challenges made the Flying Donkeys' players look like they were school kids, as he regained possession on numerous occasions.
Thumbs Up | The Italian earned a clean sheet for Juve
Domenico Criscito (Genoa): The new Italian international came off the bench and helped his side to an exciting 3-2 victory by scoring with a clinical finish and also stopping Francesco Totti from finishing with a last ditch tackle.
Midfield
Alberto Zapater (Genoa): What a way to make your debut! A well struck free-kick left Roma ‘keeper Artur with no chance and the ex-Zaragoza man’s passing added a new dimension to the Grifoni’s play. Based on first impressions, it is unlikely Thiago Motta will be missed very much at the Marassi.
Diego (Juventus): A spirited debut for the Brazilian, who added the spark that the Bianconeri midfield was clearly missing last season. His curling set-piece provided the assist for the lone goal in the match.
Tiberio Guarente (Atalanta): Unfortunately he was on the losing side in Rome against Lazio, but his drive and determination have made him irreplaceable for the Bergamo-based outfit. His never-say-die attitude was evident at the Stadio Olimpico and perhaps his side deserved more.
Ronaldinho (Milan): The Brazilian showed plenty of signs of his Barcelona days, as he provided two textbook through balls to create Milan’s goals and nearly scored a goal of his own with a bicycle kick. Rossoneri fans will want to see more performances like this!
He's Back | 'Dinho showed glimpses of the old days
Antonio Di Natale (Udinese): The player showed no signs of rust, despite his serious injury from last season. He converted a penalty before earning a share of the spoils for the Zebrette with an excellent volley from the edge of the area in the final minute.
Attack
Edinson Cavani (Palermo): A truly blossoming striker in Serie A, he was alert to poke home the ball by taking advantage of Cristian Maggio’s mistake and also earned a penalty that turned out to be the winner, converted by his partner up front Fabrizio Miccoli.
Listen! | Cavani's name will be heard for years to come
Alexandre Pato (Milan): The starlet worked hard all night long and was twice in the right place at the right time to stroke the ball into the net. A perfect start to 2009-10 and there is no doubt he will be a devastating striker for many seasons.
