Mavs clinch playoff spot with 130-101 win
By STEPHEN HAWKINS, AP Sports Writer
Posted Apr 9 2009 12:25AM
DALLAS(AP) With their spot in the playoffs secured, now the Dallas Mavericks can work on trying to avoid a first-round series against the Los Angeles Lakers. Dirk Nowitzki scored 31 points, a dozen in a row at one point, and Josh Howard overcame a bloody nose and swollen eye to add 13 points and a career-high seven steals as the Mavericks beat the Utah Jazz 130-101 on Wednesday night to clinch the final playoff spot in the Western Conference. "If we continue to win, we have a real opportunity to move up,'' Mavericks coach Rick Carlisle said. "So that is the challenge.'' With four games left, Dallas matched the Jazz at 47-31 for seventh place and evened the season series. They are within a game of sixth-place New Orleans, which lost at home to Phoenix. "Knowing the importance of each game and the sense of urgency, we treat every game like it's a Game 7 playoff game,'' said Jason Terry, who added 21 points off the bench. "We go out there and fight and scrap and do whatever it takes to win. We've got each other's back. Getting Josh Howard healthy is definitely another key factor.'' The Mavericks play their next two games against the Hornets, first in Dallas on Friday night before going to New Orleans on Sunday. After Utah closed within 73-64 when Deron Williams made a free throw to convert a three-point play midway through the third, Nowitzki scored 12 consecutive points for the Mavs - and 15 of their last 18 in the quarter. Utah never recovered, not that the Jazz threatened all that much anyway. "It was like they wanted it more, like the game meant more to them. It's disappointing,'' said Willams, who is from nearby in The Colony. "They beat us all night long. They were so much quicker. We looked like we'd been on the road for 10 months,'' coach Jerry Sloan said. "They just destroyed us. They deserved to win because we didn't make it an contest for them.'' |

Parker's 31 powers Spurs past fading Jazz
By PAUL J. WEBER, Associated Press Writer
Posted Apr 10 2009 11:43PM
SAN ANTONIO(AP) Tim Duncan disputes those who say he's been playing on just one good leg lately. "It's an exaggeration,'' Duncan said. "I feel like I've been playing on a half a leg.'' In an important win over Utah, Duncan scored 14 points and grabbed nine rebounds. It's a mediocre outing by his standards but enough to help the Spurs get a big 105-99 victory over the fading Jazz on Friday night. Tony Parker scored 31 points, and the Spurs shook off their recent funk long enough to bury the Jazz further back in the playoff picture. Both teams are in, but Utah lost for the fifth time in six games to inch closer to facing the dominant Los Angeles Lakers in the first round. Utah has three games left to climb out of the No. 8 seed and move into a more favorable matchup. The Spurs, who have won only three of their last seven, also have three games to try and secure home-court advantage for at least one series. "Every one is very important right now,'' Duncan said. "But more than that, getting our confidence up and getting a rhythm going.'' Sore knees have hounded Duncan since the All-Star break, and it's been apparent on the court. He scored a season-low four points Wednesday in a loss against Portland, and was pulled in the fourth quarter after lumbering awkwardly toward a loose ball. After that game, Parker said many don't realize that Duncan has been "playing on one leg for like a month and a half.'' But against the Jazz, Duncan said he felt good. He said he was getting his right leg back and that the aches were "basically gone.'' Deron Williams had 25 points and 10 assists for the Jazz, whose misery in San Antonio continues. The Jazz haven't won here since 1999, a streak spanning 20 games. The loss dropped Utah into sole possession of the bottom seed in the West, a game behind New Orleans and Dallas. |

Short-handed Warriors beat Jazz
By DOUG ALDEN, AP Sports Writer
Posted Apr 11 2009 11:55PM
SALT LAKE CITY(AP) Long after being knocked out of the playoff race, a hodgepodge lineup of Golden State Warriors may have just dictated where Utah will be opening the postseason.
The Warriors - all seven of them - beat the Jazz 118-108 on Saturday night, keeping Utah mired in eighth place in the Western Conference with only two games remaining in the regular season. "We want to play loose and play fast. That's what we've been doing,'' said C.J. Watson, who scored a career-high 38 points to lead the Warriors. Watson also had nine assists for the second straight night and pulled down seven rebounds as Golden State stunned Utah at the start and never let up when the Jazz tried to rally. Robert Kurz added a career-best 21 points for Golden State, which led by as much as 18 and never let the playoff-bound Jazz get closer than five despite being at a disadvantage with only seven healthy players. Still, the Warriors' reserves - Kurz and Ronny Turiaf - nearly outscored Utah's. "They had us under control all night,'' Utah coach Jerry Sloan said. "They're a team that takes a lot of outside shots. But we tried to match and we didn't make them and kind of got into a little panic situation.'' Deron Williams had 26 points and 14 assists before leaving in the final minute, holding his ribs with a strained muscle in his side. Carlos Boozer added 25 points and 12 rebounds for the Jazz, in danger of drawing the Lakers in the first round. |

Jazz end skid with win over Clippers
By DOUG ALDEN, AP Sports Writer
Posted Apr 13 2009 11:40PM
SALT LAKE CITY(AP) The Utah Jazz knew the end of their three-game losing streak may have come too late. The Jazz ended the skid with a 106-85 victory over the Los Angeles Clippers on Monday night, keeping alive their slim hopes of climbing out of the No. 8 seed in the Western Conference. "We just needed a win,'' said Deron Williams, who had 17 points and nine assists. "I don't care who it was against or how many points, we just needed a win.'' Utah closes the regular season Tuesday night on the road against the top-seeded Lakers, the team the Jazz will face in the first round of the playoffs if they can't catch Dallas or New Orleans. Utah still trails the Mavericks and Hornets by a game, so needs a win and help to avoid a return trip to Los Angeles this weekend. "We put ourselves in that position,'' Williams said. "We had some ballgames where we should have won.'' Carlos Boozer had 20 points and 13 rebounds, and Paul Millsap added 19 points and 11 boards for the Jazz, who outrebounded the Clippers 50-36 and forced 15 turnovers that led to 24 easy points. "For us to have a chance to win, we've got to play defense like we did tonight,'' Boozer said. "We hustled out there. We dove for loose balls. We were scrappy.'' It was almost an ideal night for the Jazz, who got half the help they needed when New Orleans lost to Houston, dropping the Hornets into a tie with Dallas for the No. 6 seed. The Mavericks nearly helped out Utah, too, before beating Minnesota on a last-second shot. The Jazz had lost their last two at home to Minnesota and Golden State. Utah pulled ahead to a big lead Monday and was able to hang on to it this time. |

虽然不愿意承认,但是在湖人主场最后一场季后赛败阵112-125后,我必须指出:
