Alessio Scarpi (Genoa): The veteran doesn’t get many chances to play these days, but he made two incredible stops against Tiribocchi and showed he is still capable.
Defence
Claudio Terzi (Bologna): The 24-year-old Rossoblu captain put in a solid performance, severely limiting the Catania attack and securing his team’s status in the top flight.
Giorgio Chiellini (Juventus): A tower of strength, his anticipation and tenacity were too much for the Lazio attack to handle. He continues to show he is one of Serie A’s best centre-backs.
Paolo Maldini (Milan): His presence here is not due to sentiment. The retiring Milan legend was excellent in Florence as his team shut out the Viola and secured Champions League football. The great defender showed all his experience, keeping Gilardino and company very quiet. Well done Maldini!
Midfield
Cristiano Doni (Atalanta): The former Italian international scored a fantastic brace against the Scudetto winners and was a thorn in their side all match long. The match against Inter was more evidence he still is the top dog with the Orobici.
Esteban Cambiasso (Inter): The unsung hero of the Nerazzurri continues to lead the midfield with aplomb. A goal, along with perfect positioning in front of the defence, ensures he earns yet another berth in the Goal.com ‘Team of the Week.’
Pavel Nedved (Juventus): Another man retiring, who put in a dazzling display. He didn’t manage to score, but did everything but, grabbing an assist and being influential on the offensive end until his standing ovation in the closing stages.
Marius Stankevicius (Sampdoria): The Lithuanian was heavily involved on the left wing, assisting Pazzini and also scoring with an angled drive. He is a hard worker and reaped the rewards in the match in Palermo.
Attack
Zlatan Ibrahimovic (Inter): He showed why he is called ‘Ibracadabra’ with a backheel goal to win the Capocannoniere crown. His brace brought his tally to 25 and he is now officially the most devastating striker in Serie A.
Diego Milito (Genoa): It seems no defence can contain ‘The Prince.’ He caused so many headaches for the Salentini back line, scoring a brace and getting an assist. Can the Argentine continue those exploits next season at Inter?
Vincenzo Iaquinta (Juventus): He capped off an excellent second-half to the season with two more goals and showed he deserves a place at the Bianconeri. Lazio had no answer for his endless running and Lippi has taken notice and already confirmed him for the Confederations Cup this summer.
