Kuok Brothers raises stake in REDTone
PPB Group Bhd announced an intriguing deal last week. Its 55%-owned subsidiary, ChemQuest Sdn Bhd, proposed to sell its 17.1 million REDtone International Bhd shares to its shareholders for RM9.1 million cash or 53.5 sen a share.
The 6.8% block of REDtone shares will be sold to its shareholders for a small profit proportionate to their shareholding. This means PPB's wholly owned subsidiary Hexarich Sdn Bhd, which owns 55% of ChemQuest, will buy 55% of REDtone shares, while Kuok Brothers Sdn Bhd will purchase the remaining 45%. Hexarich will pay RM5.02 million and Kuok Brothers, the remaining RM4.11 million.
As a result of the exercise, Kuok Brother's direct interest in REDtone will increase by about 3% to 5.7%. But because the shares were sold in proportion to shareholdings, there is no change in both Hexarich's and Kuok Brothers' effective shareholding in REDtone. However, the exercise would make Kuok Brothers a substantial shareholder with direct interest in REDTone.
One observer says that by having a direct stake, Kuok Brothers can decide on their future participation in REDTone without having to depend on PPB.
Kuok Brothers can still participate in any of REDTone's corporate exercises even if they do not have a direct stake. Hence, on the face of things, the exercise seems a move to reduce Chemquest's financial burden. This is especially so, considering that REDTone is likely to need additional capital to roll out its WIMAX services in East Malaysia.
For ChemQuest, the deal results in RM1.91 million profit, implying that REDtone shares were carried at 42.3 sen in its books. The RM9.1 million cash raised from the transaction will provide part of the funds required by ChemQuest to repay its bank loans, PPB's announcement to Bursa Malaysia states.

雖然美國博立航空公司的出現， 令市場感到擔憂， 不過， 他認為，金鵬集團所擁有的降陸權，是美國博立航空公司所沒有的，因此，不會影響到該公司與DHL之間的關係。DHL在較早前收購美國博立航空公司的49%股權。

（吉隆坡5日訊）儘管捲入假賬風波而導致公司陷入虧損困境，不過，大換血后的金鵬集團（TRANMIL,7000,主板貿服股）新管理層，依然看好其業務的發展前景，並為公司制定了一個3至5年的路線圖，不僅要讓該公司轉虧為盈，更有信心取得持續性的盈利表現。
與此同時，金鵬集團也重申該公司與DHL之間繼續保持緊密的合作夥伴關係，並且不認為美國博立航空公司（Polar Air）的出現，將對該公司與DHL之間的夥伴關係構成威脅。
