Asked to expand on Sterling's fitness, the Northern Irishman explained that the club's medical team are focusing on the 18-year-old's long-term availability.

He added: "The medics wanted to take him out for a few weeks just to see where he was at with injuries. It has been an ongoing one.

"He's a very young player so we don't want to risk any long-term injury when there's no need. Of course you would rather have him in the squad to develop him, but this is a part of making sure we have a duty of care for him as a young player.

"When he shows signs of fatigue and a little bit of injury, we have to look at that and treat it in the best way we think possible. At the moment, that's to take him out."

俗话说，福无双至祸不单行。近年来陷入沉沦的利物浦亟待雄起，不过上赛季刚刚结束，红军就遭遇到接二连三的烦心事。主力前锋斯图里奇“为国捐躯”很可能要错过新赛季开局，而现在，杰拉德能否赶上英超开幕也成为了问题。


3日出版的《太阳报》在重点版面报道的这一新闻，势必让很多KOP倒吸一口凉气。文章指出，新近动了肩膀手术的杰拉德恢复缓慢。要赶在新赛季开始之前复出，杰拉德需要同时间赛跑。

球员上了30岁各种伤病就接踵而至，现年33岁的杰拉德也逃不过这种惯例。近年来，杰拉德饱受腹股沟伤势困扰出勤率不比当年。不过，在有限的出场时间里，杰拉德仍然有着突出表现，他仍是安菲尔德无可争议的队魂。

进入2013年后，杰拉德一直带着肩伤上阵，但在球队无缘下赛季欧洲赛场后，杰拉德提前接受了肩膀手术，目的就是为了赶上利物浦新赛季的季前赛。杰拉德原本预计缺阵8周时间，不过《太阳报》的最新消息称，杰拉德的归期恐怕要大幅度推后了。

杰拉德不仅可能无缘新赛季开局，而且也可能赶不上英格兰同摩尔多瓦（9月6日）和乌克兰（9月10日）两场至关重要的世预赛。目前在积分榜排名第2的三狮军团已经不容有失，这两场世预赛他们必须全取六分。

英格兰队最近同爱尔兰和巴西的两场友谊赛，杰拉德都成为了看客。金秋的两场世预赛，如果英格兰队长继续倦勤，霍奇森肯定会挠头，利物浦也不会好受。上周，23岁的斯图里奇在英格兰1-1战平爱尔兰的友谊赛上脚踝韧带撕裂，英媒预计他要缺阵4个月之久。

斯图里奇目前仍然穿着护具行走，如果他的伤情短期之内得不到改善，也很可能走上手术台。斯图里奇和杰拉德恐长期缺阵，王牌射手苏亚雷斯又决意离开，利物浦的新赛季前景实在不容乐观。

我觉得应该考虑特别是当大肥可以在中场也可以影子前锋或是正牌前锋,只是他的薪水不是简单的勒...阿申纳只是敢讲不敢签就是因为它的薪水...

Martin Skrtel will hopefully be fit by the weekend. Martin returned to training with the team in the last couple of days. He's looking very strong at the moment, it's just too early to put him in. He'll need a bit longer in training with the team. He'll probably just miss out tomorrow but certainly should be ready by the weekend. There are no fresh injury worries.

"Martin won't be involved - he's still quite some way off match fitness really," said the boss.

"Credit to him, he's working ever so hard and that will be frustrating for him. He felt himself after those early weeks coming back into games that he was a long way off where he was the year before.

"That's just going to take time, there's no quick fix. If you have been out for a year it sometimes takes you near enough that to be back to your best.

"The most important thing for us is to nurture him back through his fitness and his match fitness. We have a behind-closed-doors game here on Wednesday that he will play in to help his fitness."

Liverpool will face Manchester United in the third round of the Capital One Cup.

The tie will be played at Old Trafford during the week commencing September 23, 2013.

It will be only the fifth meeting between the two sides in League Cup competition. Three of the four previous games have been won by Liverpool.

The Reds beat United in two League Cup finals - the first was at Wembley in 1983 and the second at the Millennium Stadium in 2003.

[size=0.9em]The Ivorian defender was stretchered from the field with the game level at 2-2 - and afterwards, Rodgers admitted he feared the worst.

However, addressing reporters gathered at Melwood today, the boss insisted Toure's injury is not as bad as first thought.

The defender will now be assessed over the coming days to establish if he can feature in Sunday's clash against Manchester United.

"His injury is nowhere near as bad as what we thought," said the manager. "We'll just assess that over the next 24/48 hours.

"I think we were all thinking that he might be out for longer after the game, but he's made an excellent recovery. The diagnosis isn't anywhere near as bad as we thought, so we'll see how he is for this weekend.

"If it's not this weekend, then we would think that after the international break he will not be too far away."

The boss was also quizzed about the fitness of midfielder Joe Allen after he too was forced to leave the field in the cup encounter due to a hamstring problem.

"With Joe, likewise, it was only a grade one strain, so he maybe doubtful for the weekend," said Rodgers. "But certainly after the international break he'll be fine."

Liverpool's new signing Aly Cissokho was substituted after just nine minutes of his home debut after picking up a knock on his ankle.

Rodgers said: "Cissokho will be slightly different [to Toure and Allen]. He could be out for four to six weeks, which is a blow because he came in and trained really well last week.

"He's on crutches at the moment and we'll just look at that over the coming weeks. But he certainly won't be available [for the Manchester United game]."

如果拖累得真的伤病未好还是不要冒险上阵。。。
如你所说。。联赛是不管强队弱队只要胜利就是3分。。。但是为了打强队硬派受伤球员上场恐怕不是长远之策

因为这场球赛将在对垒Sunderland之前开打。
