Sacramento 117, Utah 104 SACRAMENTO, Calif., Feb. 8 (AP) -- A 3-pointer late in the third quarter kept Quincy Douby in the game for Sacramento, and that turned out to be a good thing for the Kings. With Douby playing an unlikely fourth-quarter role and Kevin Martin scoring 27 points, the Kings were able to pull away to beat Utah 117-104 Friday night, ending the Jazz's 10-game winning streak. A reserve guard averaging just under 12 minutes per game, Douby made three 3-pointers and scored 12 of his season-high 15 points in the fourth quarter against the Jazz when he played all 12 minutes as veterans Martin and Mike Bibby never left the bench. Ahead by one point after three quarters, Sacramento outscored Utah 29-17 in the fourth. "I saw Ron Artest about to sub in, so I tried to get off a quick shot when [Kyle] Korver was backing up on me," said Douby, whose 3 came with 17 seconds left in the third and put the Kings ahead for good, 88-87. "I think that's why he [coach Reggie Theus] kept me in, I was in a rhythm." Douby shared the fourth quarter spotlight with John Salmons, another reserve who has averaged nearly 20 points a game as a starter this season for the injury-plagued Kings, who have won eight of 11 games. Salmons scored nine fourth-quarter points and combined with Douby to give the Kings some solid defensive play as well. Utah missed 14 of 21 shots in the final quarter. "That's the thing with Reggie, he will milk a player if they've got it going, that's a good thing," said Salmons, who finished with 13 points, six rebounds, three assists and two blocks. Artest had 22 points and eight rebounds for Sacramento, which won four of five on its homestand. Brad Miller, who missed the previous game after cutting his right index finger on Sunday while washing the dishes, had 15 points and eight rebounds. Salmons made back-to-back driving layups and Douby had consecutive 3-pointers in a 10-4 run that put the Kings ahead 109-99 with 5:10 remaining. "He [Douby] came in and hit some big shots and also put some pressure on us defensively," Utah guard Deron Williams said. "It was a big night for him." Carlos Boozer had 23 points and 12 rebounds for Utah, which has not won 11 straight games since April 1999. Williams had 18 points and nine assists, Andrei Kirilenko scored 14 points, Matt Harpring had 13, and Mehmet Okur and Ronnie Price added 11 each. "They just came after us, they played a great game," Utah coach Jerry Sloan said. "They did a great job of pushing the ball and executing their offense. We seemed to not be able to handle it in the fourth, they were beating us down the court and outhustling us."

Back at home and against an injury-riddled Chicago lineup, Utah looked more like the team that won 10 straight games than the one that lost by 13 points the night before. The Jazz beat the Bulls 97-87 on Saturday, pulling away after Chicago had cut a 14-point lead to two. "That's the beautiful thing about the NBA. Lose one night, you've got a game the next so you can jump right back into it," said Utah's Deron Williams, who had 15 points and 11 assists. Williams' string of nine straight games with at least 10 points and 10 assists ended with Utah's 117-104 loss at Sacramento on Friday. The winning streak was the longest for the Jazz since they won 11 in a row in 1999. Williams responded Saturday with another double-double for the Jazz, who also got 22 points and 12 rebounds from Carlos Boozer. The Jazz have won 14 of 16. "We wanted to keep winning, last night wasn't part of the plans," Boozer said. Andrei Kirilenko added 15 points and Ronnie Price scored 10, all coming during a spurt midway through the second half.

西部竞争之激烈，实所罕见 - 现在爵士和西部第一种子黄蜂，只差三场胜负距离（爵士赢三场，黄蜂输三场）就可赶上，但是离8号种子（金块和）火箭同样是三场的距离！

又有double double的Derome William (17分10助攻）赛后指出这一点，爵士根本没有松懈的本钱。

Utah 112, Seattle 93 SEATTLE, Feb. 13 (AP) -- There is a reason Carlos Boozer's game is booming heading into his All-Star weekend: He's just trying to keep up with the rest of the go-for-broke West. Boozer, long considered a bullish inside force, had 22 points, 11 rebounds and a guardlike 10 assists for his first triple-double as the Utah Jazz soared into the All-Star break with a 112-93 victory over the Seattle SuperSonics on Wednesday night. "We've turned it up,'' Boozer said after the Northwest Division-leading Jazz won for the 12th time in 13 games. "The Jason Kidd trade (potentially) to Dallas, the Shaq trade to Phoenix, the Pau Gasol trade to the Lakers - the West is much improved. "We have to keep up.'' Consider it done. Utah, which also got 20 points from Mehmet Okur, was a middling 16-16 after it lost to Boston at home on Dec. 29. Then Kyle Korver, a sharpshooter, arrived in a trade with Philadelphia. He opened the floor, as defenses could no longer focus sorely on stopping Boozer in the lane. Point guard Deron Williams kept playing like the All-Star he isn't but many around the league think he should be. And Boozer, selected to his second All-Star game, has become a triple-threat from the high post against teams that choose to play zone defense against unselfish Utah - as Seattle did with disastrous results. Williams noted that the Jazz, at 34-19, are just two games from being out of a playoff spot in the Western Conference. Then again, Utah is also just three games behind New Orleans for the conference's best record. "We've got to keep playing well,'' he said. Rookie Kevin Durant scored 19 points and Earl Watson had seven points with a season-high 14 assists for the Sonics, who lost for the third time in seven games following a team-record 14-game losing streak. It was the 26th time in 51 games Durant, the No. 2 overall draft choice in June, led the Sonics in scoring. "They just stepped it up to another level,'' Durant said of the Jazz, almost with awe.

Williams Tips the Scale in his Favor

The “Who is the better point guard – Deron Williams or Chris Paul?” question is supplanting Coke vs. Pepsi as the ultimate debate nowadays.
On Saturday in the Playstation Skills Challenge the answer was Williams. Utah’s third-year stud beat New Orleans’ Paul in the finals, setting a record in the process by completing the course in 25.5 seconds. His perfect round started off with a dunk (instead of the safe bet of a lay-up that most contestants usually go for) and ended with an even more impressive flush that eclipsed the previous best time of 26.4 seconds set by Dwyane Wade last year. Paul clocked a final-round time of 31.2 seconds, making two key miscues when he had to attempt the first chest pass twice and the jump shot twice. Paul and Williams made it to the finals after finishing the first round in 29.9 and 31.2, respectively. “It’s a rivalry,” Williams said. “We like to go against each other. “I’m a competitive guy, so I kind of did want the victory. Even though it’s about fun, I wanted to win so I’m happy about that.” Dwyane Wade, the event’s reigning champion the last two years running, didn’t bother practicing the course beforehand, and it might have come back to haunt him. Wade struggled to finish the course, taking 53.9 seconds and running into problems at every stage from losing his dribble out of bounds, to giving up on the jumper after four misses to even missing two layups before mercifully ending the round. New Jersey’s Jason Kidd also competed, bowing out after finishing the course in 39.7 seconds in the first round.

After advancing to the final round, Williams put together a flawless performance - no missed shots, every pass through the hoops - and set a record time for the final round at NBA All-Star Saturday Night, winning another duel with perennial rival Chris Paul. Not moving at full speed, Williams clocked 31.2 seconds in the first round. In the final round, he covered the course in 25.5 seconds, just one tick off the all-time mark set by Steve Nash in the first round in 2005. Paul, the All-Star point guard of the host New Orleans Hornets, posted a strong final-round time of 31.2. A pair of Eastern Conference All-Star guards were eliminated in the first round. Utah 119, Golden State 109 SALT LAKE CITY, Feb. 19 (AP) -- Deron Williams had 29 points and 12 assists, and the Utah Jazz overcame a shaky first quarter and beat the Golden State Warriors 119-109 on Tuesday night, sweeping the season series against the Warriors. All-Star Carlos Boozer had 16 points and 12 rebounds, and Mehmet Okur also had a double-double with 16 points and 10 boards. Andrei Kirilenko added 18 points for the Jazz, who have won 13 of 14. Utah scored a season-high 77 points in the first half, outrunning the fast-paced Warriors after playing some spotty defense in the first quarter. Al Harrington scored 21 points and Monta Ellis had 18 for the Warriors, who pulled their starters late in the third quarter as the Jazz were pulling away to a 25-point lead.

LOS ANGELES, Feb. 22 (AP) -- Elton Brand, who hasn't played all season because of a ruptured Achilles tendon, wants to return as quickly as possible. One reason is that he's itching to play with talented rookie Al Thornton.
Thornton scored 14 of his 27 points in the fourth quarter and the Clippers shocked the surging Utah Jazz 114-104 on Friday night, giving them back-to-back wins for the first time in 3?months.
"Whatever Al does on the court, I expect it because he works so hard and he challenges himself every day ?in games and in practice," Corey Maggette said of the Clippers' first-round draft pick. "The past couple of months he's been more patient. He can hit fadeaway shots, but now he's picking and choosing when to attack the basket more.
"Would he ever been in this position if Elton Brand wasn't hurt? You never know," Maggette added. "But when guys go down, that gives another guy an opportunity to step up. And he's really been stepping up and seizing that opportunity."

Maggette scored 27 points and Kaman added 14 points and nine rebounds. This was the 14th attempt they've made to record consecutive victories since starting out 4-0.

"I'm glad it happened," coach Mike Dunleavy said. "Now we have to go for three in a row. Utah has been playing great basketball, but our guys played for the whole 48 minutes."

Deron Williams had 26 points and 10 assists for the Northwest Division-leading Jazz. All-Star forward Carlos Boozer had 22 points and 10 rebounds.

Utah was outscored 38-26 at the free throw line and committed 16 turnovers, which the Clippers converted into 21 points. Los Angeles outscored Utah 58-38 in the paint.

The Jazz also were a season-worst 0-for-13 from 3-point range matching their worst effort of the season.

"We took a lot of 3-point shots, thinking we were going to get going, and we lost confidence in our offense because we never had much. But they had a lot to do with it," coach Jerry Sloan said. "They were terrific. They took us on like you're supposed to, and they were a lot more physical."
Seventeen of Utah's 20 losses this season have come on the road. The Jazz came into Staples Center on a 17-2 roll that began with reserve forward Kyle Korver's first game with Utah, following the Dec. 29 trade that sent disgruntled Gordan Giricek to Philadelphia.

Carlos Boozer knew they just needed to focus and they'd prevail again at home. "We got a little jumpshot happy,'' he said. "But when we needed to execute and get the ball inside, we did and we scored. Then we got down and played some good defense.'' Boozer, who had 21 points and 12 rebounds, to help the Jazz hold off Atlanta 100-94 on Saturday night for their 14th straight home victory. Josh Smith, who led Atlanta with 30 points, converted a three-point play with 1:58 remaining to get the Hawks within 90-88. But Boozer and Mehmet Okur made layups on the next two possessions by the Jazz and the Hawks were then forced to foul. Kyle Korver, who scored 13 points, had six free throws in the final 20.4 seconds to help clinch the win. "If you don't execute your offense, then you can't get back and defend the other way,'' Utah coach Jerry Sloan said. "When we execute, we're fine. Our guys played hard, got themselves going and did a great job.'' Mike Bibby had 18 points and nine assists despite foul trouble and Marvin Williams added 16 for the Hawks, who close their stretch of six straight road games Monday in San Antonio.

MINNEAPOLIS, Feb. 26 (AP) -- The Minnesota Timberwolves hope Randy Foye can become a cornerstone player as they continue to rebuild. To get there, he'll have to be more consistent. Al Jefferson and Rashad McCants scored 22 points, Foye added a season-high 20, and the Timberwolves beat the Utah Jazz 111-100 on Tuesday night. "We just have to be patient,'' Minnesota coach Randy Wittman said. "There's probably going to be another down before there's another up with Randy. This game is all rhythm and confidence and he hasn't really had any until tonight.'' Minnesota forced 24 turnovers and held the Jazz to 6-for-21 shooting in the final quarter to snap a two-game losing streak and get its first win against the Northwest Division. "We just turned the ball over a tremendous amount of times. I couldn't believe the way we were turning the ball over,'' Jazz coach Jerry Sloan said. "To me that's a sign that you're not really into the game when you have those things happen. But you've got to give them credit, they outplayed us. They got their hands on us. They knocked us around.'' The Wolves took a 97-82 lead with just under 4 minutes left after a behind-the-back move by Craig Smith set up a McCants layup. "That goes back to my playground days in Los Angeles,'' Smith said. Carlos Boozer had 34 points and Deron Williams finished with 18 points and nine assists for the Jazz. Mehmet Okur had 11 points and 11 rebounds. "You get up for some games more than others, but you still got to bring it,'' Williams said. "You got to bring energy and bring intensity. SALT LAKE CITY, Feb. 27 (AP) -- Utah's streak of wins over Detroit appeared to be ending. The Pistons put up 30 points in the first quarter and had a 15-point lead with about 5 minutes left in the third, then self-destructed against the Jazz - again. The Jazz rallied to beat the Pistons 103-95 Wednesday night, extending Utah's winning streak over Detroit to six games in a row. The Jazz held the Pistons without a field goal for almost 12 minutes between the end of the third and midway through the fourth. Paul Millsap led Utah's comeback by scoring 16 of his 19 points in the second half and Mehmet Okur capped it by making three 3-pointers down the stretch against his former team. "Paul was terrific tonight. He got us going and Memo came in and finished it off for us. Great, great comeback,'' said Carlos Boozer, who had 18 points and 15 rebounds for Utah. Deron Williams had 14 points and 14 assists and Utah improved to 25-3 at home. The Jazz were coming off a 111-100 loss at Minnesota the night before and facing the team with the second-best record in the NBA. Detroit had opened its four-game western road trip with wins at Phoenix and Denver and looked to be adding Utah to the list. Then, the Pistons stopped cold. "We're a veteran team. That shouldn't happen to us,'' Detroit coach Flip Saunders said. "You have to understand why you got up like that.'' Utah outscored Detroit 61-42 in the second half, holding the Pistons scoreless for a 4-minute stretch in the third quarter. "We started competing. We didn't compete in the first part of the ballgame,'' Utah coach Jerry Sloan said. Richard Hamilton scored 22 points, Chauncey Billups had 21 for Detroit.

New Orleans 110, Utah 98 NEW ORLEANS, Feb. 29 (AP) - Chris Paul explained his latest highlight-filled performance by complimenting his friend and fellow star point guard, Deron Williams. "When you play against the best, it brings out the best in you,'' Paul said. Paul had 24 points, 16 assists and five steals to help the New Orleans Hornets hold off the Utah Jazz 110-98 on Friday night. David West had 25 points and 13 rebounds for New Orleans, which built a 27-point lead in the first quarter, then withstood a late surge to beat the Jazz for the first time in three meetings this season. The game matched two of the best young point guards in the game in Paul and Williams, the runner-up and champion, respectively, in the All-Star skills challenge here a couple of weeks ago. Neither disappointed. Paul darted through crowds of defenders on the dribble, setting up everything from open 3-pointers to alley-oop dunks. Williams whipped passes around the perimeter or made crisp flips to teammates cutting inside for easy layups and jams. Williams, who finished with 22 points and 10 assists, also hit several big baskets as the Jazz tried to claw back, including an array of driving layups and 3-pointers at the end of the second and third quarters. However, Williams turned the ball over four times, mostly because of the way he was hounded by Paul, and the Hornets ended up scoring 24 points off 14 Jazz turnovers. "We have to do a better job taking care of the ball. I have to do a better job taking care of the ball,'' Williams said. "Later in the game, we fought back. We just put ourselves in too big of a hole too early.'' Utah was as close as 89-85 when Andrei Kirilenko hit a leaner off the glass midway through the fourth quarter. Then the Hornets started hitting clutch shots from outside. Peja Stojakovic started it with a 3-pointer and reserve guard Jannero Pargo hit a pair of tough jumpers before making a 3 of his own. Then Paul, running the break, found Stojakovic open in the corner. Stojakovic faked the shot as a defender flew past, hesitated a moment, then nailed another 3 to put New Orleans up 102-91 with 3:30 left and send the sellout crowd into a frenzy. After West scored twice more inside, Pargo, who finished with 15 points, made another 3-pointer to seal it. "As long as we remain confident, we're able to come up with some big shots,'' West said. "Guys came in and made some big, big plays for us.'' Pargo has been showing a knack for making clutch shots lately. He scored 22 points in 30 minutes in a victory over Phoenix two nights earlier and has been finding himself on the floor in crucial junctures. "That's the ultimate compliment right there when your team and your coach believe in you. That makes it a lot easier to go out there and play,'' Pargo said. "If I have a shot I feel I can make, I'm going to shoot it and just try to be aggressive.'' Stojakovic finished with 20 points and Tyson Chandler had 10, including several alley-oop dunks on feeds from Paul. Mehmet Okur had 23 points and 13 rebounds for Utah, while Ronnie Brewer had 15 points and Carlos Boozer 10.
