Jadi Imaging to tone up overseas presence

MAIN-BOARD listed Jadi Imaging Holdings Bhd expects to boost its overseas business next year when it opens a sales office in the US and appoints an exclusive distributor in Europe.
Executive chairman and group chief executive officer K.S. Liew said the US contributes only about three per cent to the company's total sales now and Western Europe slightly above one per cent.
"We will set up a sales and distribution office this year in the US, the biggest toner market in the world," he told Business Times in Shah Alam recently.
Jadi develops, formulates and manufactures toners for laser printers and photocopiers. A toner is a dry, powdery substance used as printing material in laser printers, copiers and facsimile machines.
Jadi, Southeast Asia's largest toner maker, supplies its products to wholesalers, importers, distributors and dealers; cartridge remanufacturers; cartridge refillers; and copier toner bottle refillers.
Last year, Jadi exported to 41 countries worldwide. The main markets include Asia (63.9 per cent of sales) South America (21.1 per cent), Eastern Europe (6.2 per cent), Middle East (4.0 per cent), the US (3.3 per cent), and Western Europe (1.4 per cent).
Foreign markets contributed 94.7 per cent of its total revenue.
Jadi, the country's only toner manufacturer, aims to be among the top three largest independent toner manufacturers in the world. It is currently ranked fifth.
The company has also been talking to an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) in Europe to use its toners for their printers and cartridges. The deal should be concluded by end of this year or early 2009.
Liew said Jadi plans to focus on higher margin products such as colour toners. Its sole colour toner production line in Shah Alam has an annual capacity of 80 tonnes.
"Our second colour toner line will have a production capacity of 300 tonnes when it commences production in July this year. We expect revenue contribution from colour toner to increase from the current five per cent to between 15 and 18 per cent," Liew said.
The company has four black toner production lines at its plant in Shah Alam with an annual production capacity of 4,250 tonnes.
Jadi also has one production line for black toner in a rented factory in Suzhou, China, with an annual capacity of 1,250 tonnes.
The company invests heavily in research and development (R&D). Its R&D facility is located at its factory in Shah Alam.
"We have to do continuous R&D because many printers come into the market. On average, each printer maker comes out with 10 different printers, and each printer requires different formulation of toners," Liew said.
Jadi has more than 50 formulations of toners.
Technology is the barrier of entry that keeps any potential competitors away.
"This industry is heavily focused on R&D. Nobody does this in Malaysia. At Jadi, we use specialised equipment. We work with Japanese machinery suppliers to design our machines," Liew said.

我一直认为有机会的~~
因为是必需品~
然后本地根本没有竞争对手~
公司一直在纩大~~~
唯一不利的因数就是成本增加~~赚副不能完全抵消成本~~ |
