Jazz update: Korver likes look of new team

Dec 31 1:45 PM- As a second-round draft pick back in 2003, Kyle Korver never got the chance to sit next to his team's general manager for a press conference, to hold up a No. 26 jersey and smile for the photographers and television cameras.
    Needless to say, the first trade of Korver's NBA career has brought a lot of changes. He went through his first shootaround with the Jazz on Monday, is expected to play in tonight's New Year's Eve game against Portland and was introduced to the media around 11 a.m.
    Korver, 26, arrived in Salt Lake City with the reputation as one of the most prolific three-point shooters in basketball. He was enthusiastic about leaving a rebuilding Philadelphia team and playing for a contender with the Jazz.
    He said he was nervous but called it a "good nervous." The Jazz had Korver go through the basics of a couple of plays at shootaround. Carlos Boozer said Korver looked like he got a head start by watching tape the night before.
    "It seems like there's a little more edge now," Korver said. "We have a team that could really do something and to be a part of that again feels really good. It feels good to be in a city where it's going to be packed every night. I haven't played for that in a while."
    Jazz general manager Kevin O'Connor said he had talked about acquiring Korver as far back as the trade deadline last February and again this summer. Korver was traded Saturday for guard Gordan Giricek and a future first-round draft pick.
    "This is a great young team," Korver said. "I really enjoyed watching them. I hated playing against you guys. Matt Harpring is hard to guard, those cuts down below, and I'm glad I get to be on his team now. I'm hoping that this is a great fit and I'm looking forward to being here for a long time."

Utah ends Portland's streak with 111-101 win

SALT LAKE CITY(AP) Andrei Kirilenko had 14 points, eight rebounds and seven assists and the Utah Jazz finally ended Portland's near-perfect December, beating the Trail Blazers 111-101 on Monday night to snap their 13-game winning streak. Portland lost for the first time since a 100-79 defeat at San Antonio on Dec. 2. The Blazers won their next 13, including two over Utah, and were three victories away from tying the franchise record. Portland coach Nate McMillan was attending a family funeral and not with the team to see the streak come to an end. It was just as well he missed it. The Blazers couldn't overcome a cold stretch in the third quarter, going scoreless for almost 3 minutes and without a field goal for 4:34 as the Jazz pulled away on a 20-3 run. Portland also failed to capitalize on a huge advantage from the foul line. The Blazers were 33-for-43 from the line, going 4-for-9 in the fourth quarter. The Blazers slowly walked off the court as streamers fell and "Auld Lang Syne'' played over the PA system. Jazz fans were off to celebrate the new year while the Blazers were headed to Minnesota knowing their run had ended. Kyle Korver scored 11 in his Utah debut, Deron Williams had 18 points and eight assists and Carlos Boozer finished with 19 points and nine rebounds. LaMarcus Aldridge led Portland with 36 points. Brandon Roy added 17 and James Jones scored 15 off the bench for Portland. The Blazers opened the game 11-for-15 from the floor and looked like their December roll would continue, but it all stopped midway through the third quarter.

爵士在主场以110-107击败费城76人。Boozer水准依旧取22分，Okur爆发取20分。Derome William送出本季最高的20个助攻和贡献15分。C Miles12分，Brewer11分。

Korver面对老东家，射入14分。包括2中2的三分球，以及最后时刻的4粒罚球。

值得留意的是，爵士队三分球10中7。。。  是难得一见的。。。  难道是 korver 效应？！

Utah 110, Phialdelphia 107 SALT LAKE CITY, Jan. 2 (AP) -- Carlos Boozer scored 22 points, Deron Williams had a season-high 20 assists and newly acquired Kyle Korver made five free throws in the final 27 seconds against his former team to help the Utah Jazz hold off the Philadelphia 76ers 110-107 on Wednesday night. Andre Iguodala scored a season-best 30 points for Philadelphia, Samuel Dalembert had 20 and the Sixers cut Utah's lead to 105-103 in the final minute. But Boozer and Williams executed the famous Jazz pick-and-roll down the stretch and Korver's free throws quelled Philadelphia's rally. Mehmet Okur scored 20 points and C.J. Miles had 10 of his 12 points in the fourth quarter to help the Jazz win for the fourth time in their last five home games. Williams, who also scored 15 points, topped his previous season high of 15 assists against the 76ers on Nov. 28. In his last four games against Philadelphia, the Jazz guard has averaged more than 16 assists.

我的观察，jerry sloan很少要求球队的pg很会得分。。。  以助攻为主的pg比较fit into他的半场加挡切系统战术。

我觉得爵士去年会这么强，就是因为okur表现非常特出 （去年还进了明星赛）

今年okur的表现，只能“梦游”来形容    

平均得分从去年的 17.6和7.2篮板 跌到剩下 11.9分4.8篮板。。。  FG%从0.462 跌倒剩下 0.399。。。  搞什么啊

Portland 103, Utah 89 PORTLAND, Ore., Jan. 5 (AP) -- Martell Webster had a career-high 26 points, 24 in the third quarter alone, and the Portland Trail Blazers got their revenge against Utah by beating the Jazz 103-89 on Saturday night. Earlier this week, the Jazz snapped a 13-game Portland winning streak with a 111-101 victory in Salt Lake City. The Blazers, who led by as many as 20 points, have won three straight since the streak-stopping loss. They have lost just one of their last 17 games. Portland has a 11-game winning streak at the Rose Garden and is 16-3 at home overall. LaMarcus Aldridge had 20 points, and the Blazers played most of the game without star guard Brandon Roy, out because of a sore tailbone. Deron Williams had 23 points for the Jazz, who have lost three of their last five. Utah was without forward Andrei Kirilenko, who did not travel with the team because of lower back inflammation.

Utah 111, Indiana SALT LAKE CITY, Jan. 8 (AP) -- Matt Harpring and the Utah reserves saw the beating the Jazz starters put on the Indiana Pacers right from the start. Then they came in and turned up the intensity another notch. Carlos Boozer scored 22 points and Harpring added a season-high 16 to power the Jazz to a 111-89 victory on Tuesday night. "We did a good job being the aggressors tonight and we did a good job maintaining that throughout the game, especially defensively. Our defense was able to create the offense for us,'' Boozer said. The Jazz took a 28-point lead in the first half on their way to handing the Pacers their worst loss of the season. "Our second group played extremely well. Matt Harpring, Jason Hart, Paul Millsap, (Kyle) Korver - those guys definitely did a great job,'' Utah coach Jerry Sloan said. "They executed the offense and passed the ball.'' The Jazz came out with renewed energy and exhibited defensive pressure in their 40-19 first quarter. "We got a lot of deflections, a lot of steals and we were very active, helping each other out defensively. That set the tone for us,'' Boozer said. Danny Granger led the Pacers with 17 points and Jamaal Tinsley, who saw Indiana go 1-4 while he sat out with a hamstring injury, made his return with 13 points. The Pacers have started their five-game Western Conference road swing with two blowout defeats after losing to the Los Angeles Lakers 112-96 on Sunday.

爵士在主场把西部第一的太阳挑下马 108-86。

两队的阵容都不完整。爵士队的kirilenko因伤缺阵，Hapring陪老婆生孩子（女儿）也缺席。太阳队的当家控球后卫Steve Nash感冒，shawn marion和grant hill都受伤。

太阳队昨天经过和步行者的加时赛大战，显然元气未复。到了下半场，难当爵士队的猛攻。

去年明星西岸候补中峰mehmer okur复勇，大取22分17篮板。

Utah 108, Phoenix 86 SALT LAKE CITY, Jan. 10 (AP) -- The Utah Jazz had an almost unfair advantage before their game against the Phoenix Suns even began. The Suns were without three starters and had gone into overtime the night before. It took a little while, but the Jazz took advantage and routed the weary, short-handed Suns 108-86 Thursday night. Utah ran with Phoenix early and by the third quarter the fatigue and the glaring holes in the Suns' starting lineup finally showed. "Any time someone comes in on a back-to-back and you don't, you're fresh. You should want to run them early,'' said Utah's Deron Williams, who had 17 points and 11 assists. Phoenix was without two-time league MVP Steve Nash, who stayed home with the flu. Grant Hill was recovering from an appendectomy the day before and Shawn Marion sat behind the bench with a bruised elbow. Still, the Suns opened with their usual fast pace and stayed within single digits until midway through the third quarter. Mehmet Okur scored 22 points and pulled down 17 rebounds and Ronnie Brewer tied his career high with 21 points. Utah outscored Phoenix 28-12 in the third quarter, holding the Suns to just five field goals and closing the period with seven straight points.

爵士击败魔术119-115，主场5连胜

我早前有提过，okur的表现，绝对左右爵士的战绩。这一次再次得到应验。一月的okur表现神勇，让爵士扭转颓势，这一役更大取本季最高29分，包括5中4的3分球。

Boozer（15分10篮板）和William都有2双（17分11助攻）。全能王kirilenko取16分7篮板8助攻。

爵士对魔术的魔兽中锋howard使用犯规战术，howard站在罚球线共24次。最后一节魔兽罚球不济，让爵士安全上垒。

Utah 119, Orlando 115 (F) SALT LAKE CITY, Jan. 12 (AP) -- The best defensive move the Utah Jazz made all night was sending the Orlando Magic to the foul line in the fourth quarter. The Jazz got a huge break from the Magic as they missed half their free throws in the final period and Utah held on for a 119-115 win Saturday night, sending Orlando home with consecutive road losses for the first time this season. After making 20 of 21 free throws in the first three quarters, the Magic were 10-for-20 in the fourth. Mehmet Okur led Utah with 29 points and eight rebounds and Deron Williams had 17 points and 11 assists for the Jazz, who have won three straight for the first time since early December. "We struggled at times during the game defending people, but they have a tough lineup out there,'' Williams said. "They're a little smaller, and they're quick.'' Orlando was wrapping up a four-game western road trip and had lost at Denver 113-103 the night before. The Magic fell behind by 10 in the first quarter and never quite recovered, battling back to tie it but never taking a lead. The Magic, who lead the NBA with 16 road wins, blew several chances from the foul line in the fourth quarter, opening the period 3-for-10. "We didn't shoot free throws that badly all night, but in the fourth quarter we went through that one stretch where it really hurt us,'' Orlando coach Stan Van Gundy said. Dwight Howard scored 29 points for Orlando and made a career-best 16 from the line, but was just 3-for-9 in the fourth. Howard also had 15 rebounds, and Rashard Lewis added 27 points for the Magic, who went 1-3 on the road trip.
