Flexibility

Rodriguez has always been difficult to categorize – is he a striker or a midfielder? Well he’s capable of being both.
This season he’s played as a central midfielder, right midfielder, a central No 10, a wide-left No 10 and as a striker on the right of a front three. It is in the central midfield role in which he has played the most for Real Madrid.



That flexibility could come in helpful for Jose Mourinho, particularly if he needs to be juggling the demands of Champions League football with a more serious push for the Premier League title by rotating his team.

Goals and assists

Since his ￡71m switch to Real Madrid in 2014 following a brilliant World Cup his time on the pitch has diminished every season. Normally that would suggest his contribution has been lacking but a look at the raw numbers shows a player whose value to the team has been significant. In his first season he played 29 times in La Liga and he delivered an impressive 13 goals and 13 assists.
The following term he made 17 starts and nine sub appearances and scored seven goals and got eight assists.
This term in his 21 appearances, of which 13 were starts, he’s scored eight goals and has six assists.

The numbers show how significant an impact he could make at Manchester United, particularly considering that no current player aside from Zlatan Ibrahimovic has either scored or assisted more than six times this season.
The relatively even split between goals and assists also demonstrates his all-round contribution to a team.

An upgrade?

If we compare Rodriguez to Manchester United’s current creative midfield options he excels in every department of note.
Concentrating on just league performances, over a 90 minute period Rodriguez scores more goals, creates more assists and plays more key passes than any of Mourinho’s current options.



His eight goals see him score at a rate of 0.62 per 90 minutes. The closest any Manchester United midfielder can get is Juan Mata’s 0.35.
Rodriguez sets up a goal approximately every two full matches – a rate of 0.47 per 90 minutes. Ander Herrera, the closest to that figure, is at 0.22.
On key passes Rodriguez plays 2.95 every 90 minutes. Mata again comes closest with 2.27.
In those three essential departments Paul Pogba, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Maroune Fellaini and Jesse Lingard don’t come close based on this season.

Where could he fit in?

As demonstrated by his flexibility, eye for an assist as well as a goal and his better return in comparison to Manchester United’s current options it would seem Rodriguez could play virtually anywhere in midfield or attack for Jose Mourinho.
We’ve imagined that if Manchester United also manage to land fellow targets Antoine Griezmann and Romelu Lukaku this summer how they could line-up next term.

不然很难两边都出好成绩。。。
