KUALA LUMPUR (Thomson Financial) - The Malaysian government has dropped a proposal to build a high-speed train linking Kuala Lumpur and Singapore, saying the project was too costly, the Star newspaper reported on Wednesday. "The government will not go ahead with the project because the financial model submitted involves a significant cost to be borne by the government," Sulaiman Mahbob, director-general of the Economic Planning Unit (EPU) was quoted as saying. The EPU oversees and approves the country's development projects. In 2006, Malaysian infrastructure group YTL Corp. submitted the proposal to the Ministry of Transport. Since then, a feasibility study had been completed and the government had instructed that a social impact study be conducted as the project would involve land acquisitions. The EPU's decision to put aside the train project came after Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi's remarks on Tuesday that infrastructure projects under its multi-billion-dollar five-year development plan may be delayed due to escalating costs. 不知YTL有没有打算拿这笔钱来跟槟州政府合作建第二大桥以飞起UEM

整個工程的費用約RM80億(2006年的估價)。

而且YTL要求政府每年津貼RM10億。

萬一工程拖個8年才完成，那建造費用豈不是完全由政府來承擔了？

可是之後的經營權和售票權卻歸YTL所擁有。

我想，這個才是EPU要重新要求擱置和檢視該工程的主因之一。
